Position Summary

Walmart Global Tech is looking to hire a Staff Software Engineer (Android) for their Marketplace Engineering team in Sunnyvale, California.

As a part of Walmart Global Tech, you will build industry defining seller and customer experiences in growing the marketplace platform. You will be in the unique position to bring a broader impact to Walmart’s customers and sellers by providing Seller Mobile Apps and provide capabilities to associates in supporting all segments of Walmart. We are the marketplace team at Walmart Labs, and we share your enthusiasm! Walmart's mobile apps and website are used daily by millions of customers. As a member of the marketplace team, you'll be deeply involved with creating novel features that make seller's lives easier by linking digital and physical shopping experiences. Our team is energized and expanding rapidly- we are on the forefront of the battle for the future of retail. You'll be working shoulder-to-shoulder with a top‑notch and diverse group of iOS, Android and services developers. We are product focused and expect our fellow engineers to be involved in all parts of the product development from product requirements and design to implementation and testing. We adapt new technologies and our work includes challenges in the areas of security, geolocation, payments, scalability and architecture.

What you’ll do
  • Design and implement sophisticated features in Walmart Android applications.
  • Work closely with product and design teams to optimize the experience for Android platform.
  • Analyze and optimize Android applications.
  • Experiment with new technologies and features and build quick prototypes.
  • Participate in managing code & configurations for multiple environments, release management process, creating and maintaining environment configuration and controls, code integrity and work closely with platform team. Analyzing business requirements, story‑boards and similar artifacts of the scrum process, work in an agile development environment with a quick turnaround time and iterative builds.
  • Lead the discovery phase of medium to large projects to come up with high level design. Lead the work of other small groups of three to five engineers.
  • Troubleshoot business and production issues.
  • Ensure inclusion of business vision and industry trends to enable results that drive business.
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting design and development issues and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with technical and non‑technical cross‑functional teams.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to the junior engineers. Ability to enforce quality code and follow SOLID principles.
  • Knowledge of standard tools for optimizing and testing code.
  • A desire to work in a fast‑paced and challenging work environment.
  • Utilizes industry research to improve Wal‑Mart's technology environment.
What you’ll bring
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or IT.
  • 10+ years of experience in object‑oriented design and software development.
  • 10+ years’ experience with pure native development.
  • 5+ years experience on Kotlin for Android developer.
  • Understanding of MVVM and clean architecture. Shipped one or more Android applications which are still available in the Playstore.
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking and communication skills.
  • Technical lead for team. Familiarity and comfort with compilers, linkers, build systems, and project configuration.

Salary and Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 – $286,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include stock.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Valuable experience with creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and alignment with Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for an inclusive culture.
