AppFolio is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to drive the Resident Concierge engineering growth. You will design and build scalable SaaS infrastructure, mentor engineers, and collaborate with ML leaders to bring AI-powered features to market.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience developing and scaling web-based applications, preferably SaaS.
• Proven track record leading high-stakes projects from ambiguity to launch and ensuring long-term system health.
• Experience leading architectural discussions and guiding technical decisions.
• Proactively adopted AI tooling into daily workflow with emphasis on quality output.
• Pragmatic about adopting new tools where they add value while leveraging proven tech.
• Commitment to long-term maintainability and clean architecture.
• Ability to refactor code smells and balance work-life responsibilities.
• Willingness to learn new tech and leverage existing tech when effective.

Responsibilities

• Drive technical vision and strategy across the Resident Concierge subsegment and align with business goals.
• Lead design and implementation of distributed systems to support higher traffic and engagement.
• Coach engineers and foster a high-trust, autonomous culture with ownership.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and ML leaders to bridge AI possibilities with customer value.
• Own full lifecycle of solutions from discovery to production, autonomously.
• Research and apply new technologies to improve quality and accelerate delivery.
• Use TDD, code reviews, and CI to deliver high-quality software and fix bugs quickly.
