Headway is transforming mental healthcare by building scalable ML-powered systems for clinicians, providers, and insurers. We architect end-to-end platforms to review clinical notes, detect risky claims, and measure quality across a growing network of providers.

Our Staff Engineers set technical standards and mentor a team of engineers as we scale from ~12 to 30–50 engineers by year-end. Location: NY, SF, Seattle hubs with no onsite requirement; remote-focused teams and offices in key cities.

Qualifications

• End-to-end software experience spanning backend and frontend architectures.
• Ability to define solutions, align teams, and ship with ambiguity.
• Set standards for maintainability and scalable engineering craft.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and design discussions.
• Ship quickly and iterate based on real feedback from users.

Responsibilities

• Architect LLM-powered systems reviewing clinical docs at scale.
• Design ML/LLM systems for detecting improper billing and care quality.
• Build systems to measure and improve clinical quality across network.
• Develop patient-provider matching and care personalization ML modules.
• Champion trustworthy AI with evaluation frameworks and observability.
• Set and raise technical bar for the Payers & Outcomes group.
