Job summary

Oscar Health seeks a Staff Software Engineer to lead the design and development of next-generation claims and payment systems. You will influence architecture, coach teams, and drive scalable solutions in a hybrid work setting with offices in New York, Tempe, and Los Angeles.

You will report to the Director of Software Engineering and work with product managers, designers, and partners to deliver high‑impact features while applying AI to automate complex processes.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 5+ years leading cross-pod or cross-company deliverables.
• 5+ years leading technical contributions and improving team output.
• 5+ years applying CS concepts within teams.
• 5+ years setting and enforcing coding standards for stability.
• 5+ years leading and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Act as subject matter expert on business and technical domains.
• Plan, execute, and release large features or infra projects across teams.
• Collaborate with partners, product managers, designers to solve problems.
• Lead and mentor engineers to improve technology and best practices.
• Ensure delivery of complex capabilities within or across domains.
• Encourage collaboration and mitigate cross-team risk.
• Contribute to the objectives of the functional group and org-wide projects.
• Influence prioritization of technical roadmaps and product enhancements.
• Identify and reduce failure domains with the team.
• Build software to minimize maintenance effort and impact.
• Guide the development of SLOs for systems.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.
