AppFolio seeks a Staff Software Engineer to drive architectural evolution in the Leasing domain. You will lead end-to-end design of scalable, AI-enabled SaaS systems and own the technical strategy across autonomous workflows. Qualifications

8+ years of experience developing and scaling web-based applications, preferably SaaS.
Leads architectural discussions, defining system design and guiding technical decisions.
Experience integrating AI/ML into production-grade applications.
Adopts a pragmatic approach to new tools, balancing value and risk.
Focus on long-term maintainability and clean architecture.
Ability to work autonomously and drive high-impact initiatives.

Responsibilities

Set technical vision for Leasing teams and influence product roadmap.
Design and implement distributed systems powering agentic AI.
Raise engineering quality through hands-on leadership in design and code.
Coach engineers and foster a high-trust, autonomous culture.
Collaborate with Product, Design, and ML leaders to align AI value with customer needs.
Own full lifecycle from discovery to production for solutions.
Research and apply new technologies to improve quality and delivery velocity.
