Job summary

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our AI Applications team. You will lead projects that enable and scale our business with major AI customers and partners, designing scalable backend services and APIs as well as intuitive frontend applications.

Collaborate with AI engineers and ML teams to build GenAI-powered products, redefine consumer link experiences in conversational interfaces, and architect trust layers for agentic commerce while extending AI systems to support key customer

Qualifications

• Experience building backend services with microservices or SOA.
• Hands-on work with LLMs, including prompt engineering, fine-tuning, RAG, semantic search, agent orchestration, and evaluation frameworks.
• Strong debugging and monitoring skills.
• Experience training ML models in production, privacy-sensitive environments, and familiarity with frontend technologies.

Job description

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our newly formed AI Applications team, where you will lead projects that enable and scale our business with major AI customers and partners. You will design and develop scalable backend services and APIs, as well as intuitive frontend applications, while collaborating with AI engineers and ML teams to build GenAI-powered products. Responsibilities include redefining how Plaid’s consumer link experience integrates into conversational interfaces, architecting trust layers for agentic commerce, and extending our AI systems to support key customer journey stages. You will also drive rapid experiments to explore the business impact of emerging AI capabilities.

Required qualifications include experience building backend services with microservices or SOA, hands‑on work with LLMs, including prompt engineering, fine‑tuning, RAG, semantic search, agent orchestration, and evaluation frameworks. Strong debugging and monitoring skills, along with the ability to balance creative exploration with technical feasibility, are essential. Experience training ML models in production, working in privacy-sensitive environments, and familiarity with frontend technologies are a plus. The role is based in San Francisco, New York, Washington D.C., London, or Amsterdam, with opportunities for hybrid work.
