Job summary

EMERGE is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to drive technical excellence and AI adoption across its cloud-based software platform. You will influence architecture, standards, and development practices, partnering with leadership to establish reusable patterns and AI-first workflows.

You will lead multiple teams, advance security, scalability, and quality, and mentor engineers while accelerating delivery through automation and modern DevOps practices.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience building enterprise-scale applications and distributed systems.
• Expert knowledge of software engineering principles, OO design, data structures, algorithms, and system architecture.
• Experience with Kubernetes, cloud-native development, and SaaS platforms.
• Strong background in CI/CD, automation, and DevOps practices.
• Experience designing APIs (Apigee or similar) and AI-enabled development workflows.
• Familiarity with Jira/Confluence in Agile environments.

Responsibilities

We are partnered with a market-leading Insurtech organization that is transforming the insurance industry through innovative cloud-based software solutions. Our client is making significant investments in AI-enabled engineering practices and modern software development methodologies and is searching for a Staff Software Engineer to help drive technical excellence, engineering productivity, and AI adoption across the organization.

In this highly visible role, you will serve as a technical leader responsible for influencing architecture, engineering standards, development practices, and AI-enabled software delivery across multiple engineering teams. You will partner closely with architecture and engineering leadership to define reusable patterns, improve software quality, accelerate delivery, and establish AI-first engineering workflows that scale across the business.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience building enterprise-scale applications and distributed systems.
• Expert-level knowledge of software engineering principles, object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and system architecture.
• Strong experience working with SQL Server and relational database design.
• Deep understanding of cloud-native application development, distributed systems, and SaaS platforms.
• Expert knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, automation frameworks, and software delivery methodologies.
• Experience working with Kubernetes, containerized applications, and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with API design, integration, and management technologies including Apigee or similar API platforms.
• Hands-on experience utilizing AI development tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar technologies to accelerate software delivery.
• Experience defining repeatable AI workflows, prompt engineering standards, and AI-enabled development practices.
• Strong understanding of software security principles, secure coding practices, and enterprise application architecture.
• Extensive experience working within Agile software development environments utilizing tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Proven ability to influence technical decisions and drive outcomes across multiple engineering teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Research, design, and deliver scalable technical solutions that improve engineering efficiency, product quality, and business outcomes across multiple product teams.
• Partner with architecture and engineering leadership to establish technical standards, reusable frameworks, reference implementations, and development best practices.
• Define and promote AI-first software development practices including AI-assisted coding, testing, documentation, debugging, and engineering workflows.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation, technical standards, development guidelines, and architectural patterns.
• Influence technical direction across multiple teams by providing guidance on architecture, system design, scalability, security, and maintainability.
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering productivity through automation, tooling, CI/CD enhancements, and AI-enabled development practices.
• Develop reusable components, services, APIs, and shared engineering frameworks that improve consistency and quality across the organization.
• Establish patterns for AI agents, prompt engineering, and multi-agent workflows that enhance software delivery while maintaining security and quality standards.
• Drive adoption of modern software engineering principles including automated testing, continuous integration, continuous deployment, observability, and cloud-native architecture.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate new technologies, improve engineering processes, and support strategic technology initiatives.
• Mentor and support engineers by sharing best practices, reviewing designs, and helping teams solve complex technical challenges.
