Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join us as a Staff Software Engineer!
About the role

As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll drive technology excellence and mentor future leaders. In this role, you'll collaborate with delivery teams and business partners to design, build, and maintain technological solutions that serve both internal and external customers. You'll act as a technical leader and individual contributor, estimating development efforts, driving delivery, and ensuring high-quality outcomes.

What you will do
  • Develop secure, high-quality, and high-performing code, drive code reviews, and implement standards for versioning, reusability, and performance optimization
  • Lead testing strategy and quality initiatives, ensuring strong coverage and introducing modern testing tools and automation practices
  • Oversee CI/CD pipelines, build and deployment standards, and production support including root cause analysis and system reliability improvements
  • Design and guide scalable system architecture, establish design patterns, and ensure compliance with security, performance, and capacity standards
  • Mentor senior engineers and drive innovation through research, proof-of-concepts, and adoption of new technologies and best practices

Compensation

Salary Range: $141,600 - $236,000 base plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program.

Who You Are
  • High School Diploma is required, plus a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field
  • 12 to 15 years of cumulative, relevant work experience
  • Expertise in building secure, scalable, high-performance applications
  • Strong code quality practices, including code reviews, version control, and performance optimization
  • Experience with testing frameworks, automation, and quality assurance strategies
  • Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, and production support
  • Solid understanding of system architecture, design patterns, and scalability principles
  • Leadership, problem-solving, and innovation skills, including mentoring and driving new technologies
