Job summary

Gap Inc. is seeking an Android Lead to design scalable, high‑performing mobile solutions in an Agile environment. You will lead requirements gathering, design, development, deployment and support across the Android stack, mentoring teammates along the way.

You will use your expertise in Kotlin/Java, MVVM, and Retrofit to deliver reliable features and robust tests, while collaborating with product managers and architecture to resolve cross‑domain issues.

Qualifications

  • Strong hands‑on development experience on Android using Kotlin/Java.
  • Minimum 4 years of Kotlin experience.
  • 7–9 years total software development experience.
  • Experience with MVVM and Android architecture components.
  • Familiarity with Retrofit, Flow and reactive patterns.
  • Experience with SSL Pinning, ProGuard/R8.
  • Solid track record with RESTful APIs and CI/CD (Jenkins/Bamboo).
  • Exposure to automated testing (unit/integration/contract).
  • Agile delivery experience and on‑call readiness.

  • Design and develop Android applications with emphasis on simplicity, reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Prepare stories, write code, run tests, obtain sign‑off, deploy, and monitor features.
  • Launch high‑visibility features for our retail platform using modern testing practices.
  • Grow skills through pair programming and code reviews.
  • Deliver relentlessly with CI/CD and DevOps practices.
  • Collaborate with business and tech teams to implement scalable solutions.
  • Be available on call as project needs dictate.

About the Role

In this Android Lead role, you will design highly scalable and high‑performing technology solutions in an Agile work environment and produce and deliver code and/or test cases using wide‑ranging experience, professional concepts, company objectives and Agile practices. You will collaborate closely with key business support teams, product managers, architecture to assist in resolving complex critical cross‑team and cross‑domain production issues to help simplify and improve business processes through the latest in technology and automation. You are a technical expert and will lead through the requirements gathering, design, development, deployment, and support phases of a product. You will leverage your comprehensive knowledge of domain and core programming technologies or packages to mentor and advise team members.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and develop applications with an eye toward simplicity, reliability, manageability, scalability, extensibility, performance and reusability.
  • Prepare stories, develop code, write automated unit and integration tests, obtain sign‑off from manager, deploy, monitor and maintain code.
  • Design, implement and launch highly‑visible features for our retail platform using Test/Behaviour Driven Development practices and support the product in production.
  • Continuously grow your skills and value through pair programming and code reviews.
  • Practice relentless automation, continuous integration, continuous delivery and DevOps.
  • Work collaboratively with technical and business team members to develop and maintain business solutions following Agile development principles and practices.
  • Be flexible to be available on call as per project need.
Who You Are
  • Strong hands‑on development experience on Android app with Kotlin / Java.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in Kotlin.
  • Total professional experience of 7 to 9 years.
  • Minimum relevant experience of 5 years (recent).
  • Strong hands‑on experience in MVVM architecture.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Android architecture components.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Retrofit, Flow and re‑active pattern.
  • Experience in SSL Pinning and ProGuard / R8.
  • Good experience in handling ANR and memory leaks.
  • Should be able to develop custom components.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs to connect Android applications to back‑end services.
  • Experience in continuous integration tools like Jenkins / Bamboo with Git.
  • Knowledge in code quality tools/frameworks like Sonar.
  • Strong knowledge of automated testing: unit testing, integration testing & contract testing.
  • Experience working in Agile.
These Skills Would Be Advantages
  • Experience in Kotlin coroutines.
  • On‑call support experience with PagerDuty, Service Now.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure monitoring tools like Nagios, New Relic.
  • Knowledge of Splunk.
  • Good to have knowledge on JIRA.
  • Experience working with Lean and Extreme Programming (XP).
