Job summary

Waymo LLC is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to advance the Waymo Driver platform. You will design and scale backend systems, improve deployment efficiency, and help push the frontier of autonomous driving technologies.

The role requires deep expertise in C++, distributed data processing, and ML/robotics engineering, with 5–7+ years of relevant experience. Hybrid work may be available, and compensation includes a base salary, bonus, and equity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field with 7 years of experience
• Alternatively, Master’s degree with 5 years of experience
• 5 years of experience in C++ programming
• 5 years of experience in distributed system design
• 5 years of experience in large-scale data pipelines
• 5 years of experience in distributed data processing frameworks
• Experience in robotics or ML engineering

• Lead cross-organizational efforts to enhance system efficiency, deployment speed, and maintainability.
• Improve developer experience and system visibility by streamlining infrastructure workflows
• Optimize model serving infrastructure to maximize the perception system's model performance.
• Develop and scale robust infrastructure for large-scale data processing, extraction, and evaluation.
• Support expansive machine learning development, including data mining, debugging, and visualization tools.
• Contribute to systems development by enhancing testing, performance analysis, and deployment pipelines.

You will:

You have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field and 7 years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or in a Software Engineer-related occupation. Alternatively, will accept a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field and 5 years of experience in the job offered or in a Software Engineer-related occupation.

  Position requires 5 years of experience in the following:

  • C++ programming;
  • Distributed system design;
  • Large-scale data pipeline development;
  • Distributed data processing frameworks; and
  • Robotics engineering or Machine learning engineering.

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.

Salary Range

$295,000 - $310,000 USD

Position reports to the Waymo office & may allow for a hybrid schedule per Waymo policy.
