About

Join GM’s OS Verification organization and help shape the quality of next-generation In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) platforms. As a Staff Software Embedded Test Engineer, you will lead OS verification efforts that ensure software and features meet GM standards for functionality, system quality, security, performance, and architectural compliance.

You will provide hands‑on technical leadership across test planning, execution, automation, and quality reporting, working closely with component developers, external system stakeholders, and sustaining and integration teams. This role is responsible for defining robust verification strategies, creating and implementing automated and manual test cases, and driving end‑to‑end test execution plans for complex software systems.

This is a Staff Software Embedded Test Engineer role that requires strong systems thinking, deep test engineering expertise, and the ability to drive quality across cross‑functional teams. You will define scalable validation strategies, expand automation coverage, improve test efficiency, and help ensure GM delivers reliable, high‑quality IVI experiences for customers.

The Role

Staff Software Embedded Test Engineer ensures applications meet GM software and feature standards for functional, system, quality, security, performance and architecture requirements. Ability to drive advanced levels of test planning, execution and quality reporting of software applications through engagement with component developers, external system stakeholders, and sustaining/integration groups. This includes the creation and implementation of both automated and manual test cases and test execution plans.

What You'll Do

The Staff Software Embedded Test Engineer will perform reviews of business and software requirements, design verification plans, execute tests, log defects, and report test metrics and test status to the project teams. This role requires experience in platform and embedded low‑level system design validation, software test strategy and automation, creation of test process deliverables, test metric definition, and clear/concise result reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with architects, system engineers, developers, and project/program managers to collaboratively provide successful and on‑time delivery of projects with the highest possible quality.
  • Assist in maintaining optimal resource utilization across a functional area; calls out constraints and bandwidth limitations when appropriate.
  • Interact with managers, technical leads, and peers to share information and clarify instructions, lead projects, build/automate/execute test plans, and assist in test strategy and process improvements.
  • Analyze and review business and system requirements. Derive and produce accurate test estimates.
  • Ability to manage work across multiple projects and ability to lead all testing activities on a feature/project.
  • Comfortable creating test cases that can be executed manually, when necessary, but designed and optimized to be automated; ability to write accompanying automation scripts using industry‑standard tools and coding methodology should be ingrained.
  • Execute manual and automated tests, troubleshoot scripts and test environment issues, triage and log defects, and track progress to plan.
  • Log, track, and verify resolution of requirements and software defects.
  • Review test plans written by others and provide insightful feedback and assistance.
  • Evaluate and produce test and project metrics, and can speak knowledgeably to quality concerns and test blockers.
  • Create test‑execution plans, categorize and manage test suites, and propose innovations in the testing process via tools, techniques, and process tweaks.
  • Can act as an SME of the component, system, and business process domain.
  • Hold themselves and others accountable for demonstrating GM values and cultural behaviors. Models GM behaviors and helps to build a winning culture.
