Title : Staff / Senior Staff Attorney (Contract) – Workers' Compensation Defense
Location : 100 % remote work from home
Shift timing : 9 am to 5 pm PST
Rate : $60 to $90 / hr on W2
Position
Overview
- This is a fully remote, in-house position responsible for managing a designated caseload of Workers' Compensation cases and handling appearances before the California Workers' Compensation Boards in Marina Del Rey, Los Angeles, Van Nuys, and Oxnard.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive legal research, and develop well-reasoned legal arguments.
- Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
- Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, petitions for reconsideration, and trial briefs.
- Collaborate with Claims Partners to achieve the best results for Hartford insured clients.
- Communicate effectively and promptly with clients on legal and factual issues, providing legal advice and updates.
- Maintain professional communication with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel.
- Ensure efficient and effective resolution of assigned cases.
- Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials or administrative hearings.
- Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts.
Qualifications
- Note : This position may be filled as a Staff Attorney or Senior Staff Attorney, based on experience.
Staff Attorney Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of legal practice experience in Workers' Compensation law.
- JD from an accredited law school and California state bar license.
- Trial experience preferred but not required.
- Positive, collaborative, and team-oriented attitude.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Lexis Nexis experience is a plus.
- Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
Senior Staff Attorney Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience, including handling complex Workers' Compensation cases, such as life pension cases.
- JD from an accredited law school and California state bar license.
- Trial experience preferred.
- Positive, collaborative, and team-oriented attitude.
- Excellent legal research and writing skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Lexis Nexis experience is a plus.
- Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to quickly adapt to new software.
