Job summary

Aurora is seeking a Staff Security Software Engineer to design and implement security for the onboard vehicle platform and cloud services, reporting to the CISO. You will architect systems to meet Safety Case goals and guide a team of engineers.

This role requires strong C++ and Golang production code, cryptographic security knowledge, and cross-functional collaboration with vehicle platforms and OEMs. Based in SF or other US locations, it offers a competitive salary with bonus and equity.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Ability and desire to write production-quality code in C++, and Golang
  • Ability to work effectively with other software engineers on design and code
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Translate product requirements into code independently
  • Able to write high quality production code, unit tests, integration tests
  • Able to debug across module boundaries
  • Familiarity with cryptographic protocols, infrastructure and network security best practices
  • Ability to translate company goals into product requirements
  • Able to lead a team and organize projects to deliver outcomes
  • Able to work cross-functionally with other teams
  • Minimum 2 years of security-specific or security-adjacent experience
  • Minimum 8 years of development in a software engineering environment

We’re searching for a Staff Security Software Engineer. This is a software architecture/development position reporting in the reporting chain of the CISO. Our team is responsible for the secure design and implementation of technology built for the onboard vehicle platform and the cloud services with which the vehicle communicates. In addition to contributing to the security architectural strategy, the team is involved in architecture reviews, reviewing and proposing threat models, security code reviews, and release-security for Aurora’s products. The focus of this team however, is the design and development of new security frameworks and technologies for our autonomous vehicle platform.

In this role you will

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a security-specific or security-adjacent industry
  • Minimum 8 years of development in a software engineering environment
Desirable qualifications
  • Experience evaluating the security of software and services
  • Foundational knowledge of embedded firmware security and hardware security, preferably in the robotics or automotive space
  • Familiarity working with or developing fuzzers
  • Familiarity with cloud security (AWS) and infrastructure-as-code
  • Familiarity with Trusted Platform Modules, HSMs, and trusted boot
  • A history of giving back to the security industry via open source contributions, published papers, or conference presentations

For roles based in San Francisco, CA, Mountain View, CA, and Seattle, WA: The salary range for this position is $189,000 - $303,000 per year.

For roles based in Pittsburgh, PA: The salary range for this position is $171,000 - $273,000 per year.

Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
