Job summary

Uber is seeking a Staff Security Engineer to join the Cyber Defense team to advance incident response and AI-driven threat hunting capabilities. You will architect scalable security solutions, mentor engineers, and deliver high-quality code across cloud and on-prem environments.

The role demands deep expertise in distributed systems, incident response, and GenAI-enabled tooling, with leadership responsibilities and collaboration across security, IT, and product teams.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of industry experience in software development or security engineering.
• Proficiency in Golang, Java, or Python.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, high-availability, and high-performance design.
• Hands-on experience with incident response, threat hunting, and investigation.
• Masters or PhD in CS/Engineering/IS or related field.
• Experience leading incident response, threat hunting, forensics, and AI-driven tooling.
• Experience incorporating GenAI agents into production security services.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build autonomous security agents that investigate, triage, contain, and remediate incidents end-to-end.
• Lead AI-driven threat hunting across cloud, host, network, and application telemetry.
• Develop tooling and data pipelines for deep investigations and forensics.
• Collaborate with detection to improve signal fidelity and detection coverage.
• Provide technical leadership and set priorities for projects.
• Champion software engineering best practices and operational excellence.
• Partner with IT, product, and security teams to strengthen overall readiness.
