Job summary

Okta in the DC area is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to expand the Public Sector roadmap. You will build data and infrastructure platforms using automation, policy-as-code, and cloud-native technologies to protect workforce, endpoints, and data.

You'll collaborate with Security, Business Technology Engineering, and Product teams to implement security solutions and lead integrations with AWS/GCP/Azure. Proficiency in Python and Terraform is essential, with experience in regulated environments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of coding and scripting for security engineering teams.
• Python required; Bash/PowerShell/Go a plus.
• Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines for onboarding security data into Okta's security data lake.
• Experience integrating log sources and data ingestion.
• Build scalable, fault-tolerant data pipelines for security event data.
• Automate security controls and workflows using a cloud-first approach.
• Terraform and other IaC tools to orchestrate security infra.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for security automation and drift management.
• Strong communication with technical staff, leadership, and vendors.
• 2+ years building engineering solutions in regulated environments such as FedRAMP IL4/IL5/IL6 is a plus.
• Current or prior Secret, Top Secret (TS), or TS/SCI clearance.

Responsibilities

• Serve as security SME for solution engineering and architecture reviews.
• Lead technical efforts to evaluate, design, and implement new enterprise security systems and enhancements.
• Build, maintain, and enhance custom automation and cloud infrastructure using Terraform or similar tools.
• Develop integrations with APIs, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), and security infrastructure.
• Write and maintain Python-based scripts to streamline security operations.
• Establish monitoring and alerting for security posture across endpoints, SaaS, and cloud workloads.
• Identify and remediate security gaps; stay updated on emerging threats and tooling.
