Description

The Baxter lab is looking for a highly qualified Staff Scientist to join our team in supporting contract research studies conducted through the Applied Science and Innovation (ASI) Division at Texas Biomedical Research Institute. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and collaborative individual who is eager to contribute to GLP and Animal Rule biocontainment research studies in support of developing animal models, diagnostics, therapies, and preventatives for combating pathogens of public health importance. Applicants with extensive experience working with animals in a research setting and a successful track record of performing infectious disease studies, especially at biosafety levels 3 and 4, will be prioritized.

The Role:
  • Design, execute, and interpret cutting-edge scientific research in a laboratory setting.
  • Develop and advise on innovative methodologies to achieve research objectives efficiently and effectively.
  • Prepare and support the reporting and publication of research findings, ensuring high-quality contributions to scientific literature.
  • Assist in drafting and securing grant and contract applications, supporting funding efforts for ongoing research initiatives.
  • Mentor, coach, and lead team members, fostering a collaborative and supportive research environment.
  • Provide insights on talent acquisition, retention, and performance management, including promotions, reviews, and salary adjustments, to support team growth and development.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with faculty and cross-functional teams, ensuring seamless collaboration and research success.
Our Ideal Candidate:
  • A highly motivated individual with a D.V.M. or Ph.D. in virology, microbiology, immunology, pathobiology, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of postdoctoral research experience, preferably in infectious disease or related field.
  • Experience working animals in a research setting, preferably with multiple species and across multiple biosafety levels.
  • Hands-on experience in BSL-3 and BSL-4 environments is strongly preferred, with a deep understanding of biocontainment protocols.
  • The ability and desire to lead collaborative research projects involving multiple scientists and technicians and mentor students and more junior lab members are preferred.
