Job summary

Eurofins Agroscience Services (EAS) seeks an experienced Staff Scientist to join our Easton, MD lab. You’ll design and supervise environmental fate studies, troubleshoot instrumentation, and ensure GLP compliance while collaborating with a diverse team of scientists and study directors.

Located on Maryland's Eastern Shore, the region offers high quality of life with easy access to major cities. This role includes the potential to lead projects and interact with clients on technical matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology or related field with at least five years of environmental fate lab experience.
  • A Master’s degree with three years relevant experience may substitute for bachelor’s degree.
  • GLP study director or project management experience preferred.
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and supervises experiments in accordance with regulatory requirements (e.g. DEA, EPA, FDA, FIFRA, OECD).
  • Develops procedures and methods for solving technical problems.
  • Serves as an expert for staff and external customers on technical issues.
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting of instrumentation and equipment.
  • Conducts studies to determine persistence and behavior of chemicals in the environment.
  • Writes complex reports and SOPs; may supervise other staff and monitor GLP compliance.
  • May serve as primary business contact for clients.

Job Description

With more than 50 years’ experience in the crop protection industry, EAS offers a unique portfolio of expertise, providing extensive laboratory and field support across multiple industries including agrochemical, biopesticide, pharmaceutical, biocide, and fine chemical manufacturers.

With access to specialized equipment and best-in-class instrumentation, you will collaborate with a team of highly trained scientists and study directors to rapidly build upon your existing skills set.

Location: EAS Easton, MD.

The largest EAS laboratory with more than 100 scientists servicing multiple portfolios is the center for our biological, toxicology, chemistry, and environmental fate contract research for North America. Successful candidates would be part of a large diverse team collaborating to delivery high quality research to key markets. Located on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay, this historic small town has high quality of life with easy access to major cities like Washington, DC, Baltimore and Annapolis.

Staff Scientist responsibilities include
  • Designs and supervises simple and complex experiments and procedures in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements (e.g. DEA, EPA, FDA, FIFRA, OECD, etc.)
  • Routinely develops procedures and methods for the solution of technical problems
  • Serves as an expert for technical issues for staff and external customers
  • Performs advance troubleshooting of instrumentation and equipment
  • Conducts studies to determine the persistence and behavior of chemicals in the environment
  • Performs complex data evaluations, reviews the work of others, and writes complex technical reports and standard operating procedures
  • May serve as a primary business contact for clients
  • Likely to work on several projects concurrently and may monitor and direct activities of other staff performing work in area of expertise
  • May be designated as Study Director of one or more projects responsible for monitoring GLP compliance of work performed on assigned project(s)
  • Confers with scientists and colleagues regarding research, required to prepare technical papers and reports
  • Conducts training of staff on techniques necessary to perform laboratory assignments
Qualifications

The ideal candidate would possess:

  • Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies
Basic Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field such as chemistry, biochemistry, biology or other directly related field and a minimum of five years of experience in an environmental fate laboratory
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field and three years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree and experience
  • GLP study director or project management experience preferred
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
Additional Information

Position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., with overtime and some weekend shifts required as needed. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of Easton, MD are encouraged to apply.
