About The Department
The He research lab currently has an R35 grant. There are three research topics under investigation which include: Role of RNA methylation in UV damage response and inflammation in skin cancer; Role of RNA modifications in arsenic tumorigenicity; Role of RNA methylation in UV-induced DNA damage repair and tumorigenesis.
Job Summary
The Staff Scientist will design experiments, and perform experiments in molecular biology, biochemistry, sequencing, imaging, using cell culture, mouse models, and human/mouse samples. They will keep careful written and computerized records of all experiments. The techniques and roles include, but not limited to: cell culture and co-culture, cloning, flow cytometry, fluorescent-activated cell sorting (FACS), DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, RIP, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, RNA-seq, RIP-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, and DNA sequencing, immunoblot, mouse model breeding and experiments, immunoprecipitation, mentoring junior trainees, manuscript writing, presentations at group meetings and conferences, and grant writing. The Staff Scientist will interact with other laboratory members and collaborators under the direction of Dr. He.
Responsibilities
- Direct research project that focuses on the mechanisms of skin carcinogenesis by environmental exposure and chemoprevention.
- Perform complex research projects in the area of cellular biology, molecular biology, chemical biology and signal transduction.
- Coordinate work with other scientists in the laboratory and other laboratories, collaborate effectively on joint research projects, and take part in lab management and collaborative projects with other labs.
- Recognize abnormal results and trouble shoot conditions or procedures to correct problems. Adapt existing procedures to current work needs and make significant contributions to methodology. Summarize results and assist in interpreting experimental findings.
- Prepare manuscripts, grant applications, and presentations at meetings.
- Mentor junior trainees in the lab, including junior postdocs, graduate students, undergraduate students, and high school students.
- Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.
- Develops laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage, analyze and make recommendations on complex data sets for research.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Education
Minimum Qualifications
Work Experience
Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Experience
- Expertise in molecular, cellular and biochemical techniques.
- Experience with mammalian cell culture, microscopy, immunoassays, molecular biology and animal models is desirable.

- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and communicate by oral and written methods.
- Work with fixed deadlines as well as multitask.
