Job summary

E-Space in Saratoga, CA is seeking a Staff Satellite FPGA Engineer to lead FPGA RTL development for flight hardware. You will collaborate with Electrical, Software and Systems teams to deliver space-grade RTL designs and robust verification.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in FPGA firmware, SystemVerilog or VHDL, and experience with radiation-tolerant designs, Microsemi devices, and lab testing. This is a full-time exempt role based in our Saratoga office.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of FPGA RTL architecture, development, verification, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in SystemVerilog or VHDL.
  • Experience with scripting (Python, TCL, shell).
  • Knowledge of AXI protocols and common bus interfaces (I2C, SPI).
  • Experience with radiation-tolerant space designs.
  • Strong collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Own FPGA RTL development from concept to flight hardware.
  • Develop FPGA architecture and HW/SW interfaces.
  • Code RTL for Microsemi FPGAs and other SoCs in SystemVerilog or VHDL.
  • Perform design verification including simulations and timing analysis.
  • Lead design reviews and document FPGA operation interfaces.
  • Plan and execute unit and system test campaigns.

The Staff Satellite FPGA Engineer will participate in all aspects of the development and test of avionics FPGA RTL designs for E-Space satellites. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience in FPGA firmware development including RTL design, simulations, analysis, verification, and HW testing.

This position will report to the Director of Electrical Engineering and will work closely with the Electrical, Software, and Systems Engineering teams. The successful candidate will be based in our Saratoga, CA office.

What you will do:
  • The functions of this role include providing strategic direction and implementation in the following areas:
  • Own FPGA RTL development from blank sheet to flight.
  • Develop FPGA logical architecture and requirements in collaboration with other engineering disciplines including defining HW/SW interfaces between fabric logic and processing subsystems.
  • Develop FPGA RTL code for Microsemi FPGAs and other manufacturer SoCs in either SystemVerilog or VHDL.
  • Perform design verification including simulations, test benches, timing analysis, and hardware testing.
  • Lead design reviews, demonstrate requirement traceability, and create documentation for FPGA operation and interfacing with other SW and FPGA systems.
  • Develop and participate in test campaigns ranging from unit level manual tests, unit automated tests, and system level tests.
What you bring to this role:
  • 10+ years of experience in FPGA RTL architecture, development, verification, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Skilled at SystemVerilog or VHDL.
  • Skilled in at least 1 scripting language (TCL, shell, Python, etc).
  • Skilled in verification techniques, and timing/stability analysis.
  • Proficiency in understanding PCB designs and reading schematics.
  • Proficiency in understanding embedded software.
  • Proficiency with AXI protocols (at least AXI4 family). Knowledge of common bus interfaces (I2C, SPI, etc).
  • Demonstrated success working in a dynamic environment.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Expertise in implementing high speed digital communications interfaces.
  • Experience designing for space environments including radiation impacts and mitigation.
  • Proficiency with Microsemi devices and tools.
  • Proficiency with lab tools and working with hardware.
  • Familiarity with SystemRDL.
  • Understanding of OVM/UVM framework and methodology.

This is a full time, exempt position, based out of our Saratoga office. The target base pay for this position is $100,000 - $200,000 annually. The total compensation packaged will be determined by various factors such as your relevant job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
