Job description

About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions‑free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

The Staff Safety Integration Engineer will be responsible for managing the technical project management process for vehicle safety, focusing on performance, budget, and timing while maintaining strong relationships with external function group Technical Program Managers and stakeholders. The Staff Safety Integration Engineer will be the critical liaison between internal safety engineering teams and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with the strategic objectives of the vehicle programs. This role is essential to ensuring the seamless integration of multiple safety load‑cases, ensuring that cross‑functional dependencies are met, and the project milestones are delivered on time and within budget.

Responsibilities
  • Synthesize complex test, simulation, and design data from diverse safety disciplines (structures, occupant, sensing, test and validation, electrical) into cohesive, actionable technical positions.
  • Lead the systems integration of multiple safety load‑cases (structures, occupant, sensing, test and validation, electrical), securing stakeholder buy‑in across conflicting design domains.
  • Act as the single technical point of contact for external TPMs and program management, translating deep safety complexities into clear, unified program directives.
  • Lead the analysis, synthesis, and preparation of vehicle‑level safety performance data across all passive safety disciplines, presenting highly technical status updates and balance of attribute recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Partner with component and systems engineers to ensure cascading safety integration requirements are explicitly defined, tracked, and verified.
  • Proactively unearth and drive resolution for deep‑seated technical bottlenecks and integration risks across engineering boundaries.
  • Institutionalize rigorous systems engineering documentation and integration best practices within the safety organization.
  • Represent safety to external stakeholders, ensuring that the vehicle safety program challenges and opportunities are communicated clearly and effectively.
  • Ensure the integration efforts are aligned with broader strategic objectives and that the integration timelines are met.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years experience in automotive safety, vehicle testing, or system integration.
  • Ability to travel to vehicle and component launch locations.
  • Strong working knowledge of FMVSS, ECE, NCAP and other automotive safety evaluation preferred.
  • Proven project management experience, with expertise in tracking milestones, managing risks, and coordinating teams.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to anticipate and address potential roadblocks in safety system development.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, ensuring clear expectations and structured execution of safety initiatives.
