Job summary

WingXpand is expanding what’s possible with autonomous systems, building backpackable smart plane drones and robotics for defense, public safety, disaster response, and commercial missions. The Staff Robotics Software Engineer will own significant portions of the autonomy core, deciding what belongs in the shared stack and implementing hard parts today for field testing tomorrow.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with C++ in a Linux development environment.
• Deep knowledge of state estimation, sensor fusion, and closed-loop control.
• Ability to diagnose failures using telemetry and flight logs across hardware and software boundaries.
• Willingness to develop new autonomy behaviors from scratch when needed.
• Experience testing robotic systems on real hardware with hardware-in-the-loop.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop robotics and autonomy software across aerial, ground, and surface platforms.
• Improve autonomous behaviors, navigation, and mission logic including contingency handling.
• Integrate sensors and perception into the robotics stack end-to-end.
• Develop software for multi-agent coordination and edge computing.
• Ensure performance on edge hardware (Jetson-class) and embedded Linux.
