Job summary

Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, OH seeks a registered nurse to support behavioral health units, floating as needed. You will assist patients through their episodes of care with safety and quality as priorities, and you will delegate, supervise, and develop care with LPNs, PCAs, and other staff.

Requirements include an Ohio RN license, a BSN or ADN with commitment to obtain BSN within 5 years, current CPR, and willingness to obtain NRP/PALS/ACLS per manager’s direction.

Overview

Hours: 7am-3:30pm

FTE: 0.6 - 24 hours/week, every other weekend required.

Rate: Starts at $36.90/hour with potential for higher pay based on relevant exp., plus $5.00 shift differential on weekends.

  • Expected to float to other Behavioral Health nursing units as needed at the direction of leadership.
Job Description Summary

Assists patients to move rapidly, uneventfully, and as effectively as possible through their episode of care while maintaining quality and safety as a priority. Delegates, directs, oversees and provides developmentally appropriate patient care. Practices professional nursing and promotes patient advocacy in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and maintains a current Ohio Nursing License.

Essential Functions
  • Provides nursing care using a Family Centered approach.
  • Assesses individualized patient needs. Communicates patient care needs and priorities to assigned Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Patient Care Assistants (PCAs), Unit Coordinators, and Allied Health personnel.
  • Plans, implements, educates and evaluates care using Evidence-Based Practices.
  • Utilizes Therapeutic Communication while monitoring the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients and families.
  • Engages in the “workplace community” by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding Quality Improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings and then reporting important information and updates back to staff.
  • Documents according to organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
Education Requirement

BSN or Associate degree with commitment to obtain BSN within 5 years of hire, required.

Licensure Requirement

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.

Certifications
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Must be willing to obtain and maintain NRP, PALS, ACLS, APHON or other necessary certification as determined by your manager based on business unit.
