About the Observation Care Unit (OCU):

We are a unique 16 bed Observation Care Unit (1-OCU). The majority of our patients come from the Emergency Department needing an overnight stay. Our goal is to provide exceptional care while maintaining an average length of stay of less than 24 hours. Common diagnoses include Chest Pain, SOB, Pre-Procedure Care, TIA follow-up, missed Dialysis, etc. We work side by side with the Emergency Department for throughput. New hires are paired with seasoned nurses to learn policies and procedures. We promote teamwork, communication, professional development, and participation in Shared Governance.

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for a specific group of patients in an inpatient setting, demonstrating competency in caring for a primarily adult population. The job description is based on the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, 2nd Edition (2010).

Experience and Education:
  • Clinical competence in managing target patient populations.
  • Completion of an accredited School of Nursing; licensure as a Registered Nurse required.
  • Non-BSN nurses with less than one year of experience must enroll in a BSN or higher degree program within 15 months and complete it within 5 years.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
Licensure and Certification:
  • Current Wisconsin RN license or Multi-state License via NLC.
  • AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent within 90 days of hire.
