Job summary

Haverhill Hospital is seeking an experienced Emergency Nurse for night shift (7:00pm–7:00am) to assess, intervene, and stabilize trauma and illness. You will work within protocols, document care, and coordinate discharge planning with families and support systems.

Responsibilities include administering meds and IV therapy, pain assessment, safety advocacy, and handoffs. Current MA nursing license, BCLS, ACLS within 6 months, and TNCC/ENPC within 1 year are required. BSN preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current nursing license in Massachusetts required.
• BCLS required.
• ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
• TNCC and ENPC required within 1 year of hire.
• BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care based on standards of care and hospital policies.
• Collaboratively plan and prepare discharge with patient/family and resources.
• Prioritize patient care and seek needed assistance.
• Document all pertinent data, interventions, and responses accurately.
• Identify safety risks and report errors/incidents.
• Safely administer medications and IV therapy per orders.
• Assess pain level on admission and as needed using appropriate scales.
• Reassess pain control effectiveness and inform physicians as needed.
• Hand off patients as required and ensure continuity of care.
• Delegate and supervise nursing interventions appropriately.
• Apply critical thinking and perform medication dosing calculations.
• Demonstrate clinical competence in emergency nursing practice.

Position Summary:

Emergency nurses specialize in assessing, intervening and stabilizing a variety of trauma and illnesses with decisive action. Due to the range of medical conditions that may require urgent treatment and care, they must be knowledgeable about general as well as specific health issues.

Job Description:

• Provides patient care based on standards of care, standards of practice, protocols, and established policies and procedures.
• Collaboratively plans and prepares patient/family for discharge incorporating support systems/resources necessary.
• Appropriately prioritizes patient care (e.g., seeks assistance as needed from appropriate resources, reassigns personnel as necessary, recognizes need for emergency intervention, etc.)
• Provides thorough, timely and accurate documentation of all pertinent data, therapeutic interventions and patient responses including assessment, care plan, patient goals and interventions according to established standards.
• Proactively identifies risk to patient safety and identifies opportunities to reduce medical/health care errors (i.e., appropriate reporting of errors/incidents).
• Safely administers medications and intravenous therapy in accordance with physician's orders, protocols, policies, and procedures.
• Assesses patient pain level upon admission and as necessary, utilizing the pain scale (e.g., numerical, FACES and functional goals.)
• Reassesses effectiveness of pain control and notifies physicians as needed, as well as documents assessment and patients' response to medication.
• Readily accepts accountability for designated patient and effectively hands off patient as required.
• Appropriately delegates and supervises nursing interventions performed by others.
• Critical thinking skills and ability to perform medication dosing calculations.
• Demonstrates clinical competence in the specialty area of nursing practice preferred.

Qualifications:
