Our Houston-based Exploration and Production client is currently sourcing an experienced Staff Reservoir Engineer - Onshore Canada.

The Onshore Reservoir Engineer will be responsible for reservoir management of the unconventional Duvernay asset in Canada. The role has broad responsibilities in development, reserves, surveillance, and optimization. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders to frame, implement, and develop initiatives to understand resource potential and optimize future development.

The role entails outlining the scope and requirements for significant projects, devising efficient and cost-effective solutions for technical challenges, and preparing executive summaries or presentations on emerging topics. The Staff Onshore Reservoir Engineer involves foreseeing management’s inquiries and addressing them strategically. Additionally, this role may lead multidisciplinary teams on small to medium-sized projects and cultivate understanding across functions to better tackle new opportunities. The role includes questioning data, fostering innovation, implementing new ideas, identifying problems, and providing solutions.

In this role, the individual leads projects, works independently, enhances technical skills, develops business insight, gains credibility, and builds strong internal relationships.

The Staff Reservoir Engineer will work in the client's Houston Corporate office and may work remotely two days a week.

Responsibilities
  1. Work with multidisciplinary teams to create development plans for the client's Onshore Canada assets
  2. Utilize DCA and RTA/PTA techniques to evaluate and forecast well performance
  3. Conduct industry surveillance to understand competitor performance, best practices, and identify areas for improvement through data integration
  4. Champion technical reviews, data collection, execution planning, and economic analysis
  5. Collaborate with geoscience, Land, D&C, Production, and Facilities teams to define and integrate development plans, rig schedules, and capacity constraints
  6. Understand how well spacing, stacking, and landing pattern optimization impact depletion, reserves, and development decisions
  7. Integrate field development and business plan assumptions into reserves updates
  8. Prepare forecasts for PDP locations, undeveloped bookings, and documentation for reserves process
  9. Provide technical and economic evaluations to support investment and approval decisions
  10. Support technical projects that enhance asset understanding and optimization
  11. Conduct technical reviews and asset valuations to maximize economic value
  12. Manage and update Reservoir Engineering databases
  13. Benchmark performance against peers and identify process improvements
  14. Apply advanced knowledge to complex tasks, demonstrating proficiency in related fields
  15. Address diverse problems through data analysis
  16. Define project scope and provide direction
  17. Translate creative ideas into practical applications
  18. Align team goals with organizational objectives
  19. Seek cross-functional experiences to deepen business understanding
  20. Understand how technology integrates with business processes
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in unconventional reservoir engineering
  • Ability to manage large datasets effectively
  • Proficiency in creating impactful data visualizations to influence decisions
  • Knowledge of data analytics and multivariate analysis
  • Understanding of drilling, completions, and facilities operations
  • Proficiency with industry platforms like ENVERUS Prism or S&P Impact
  • Experience with economic analysis software such as ValNav
  • Familiarity with IHS Harmony/Whitson, Spotfire/Power BI, and data analytics tools
  • Knowledge of reserves calculations and SEC guidelines
  • Experience with asset valuations, acquisitions, trades, or divestitures
  • Experience with technical studies on well spacing, parent/child well impacts, optimization, flowback, and refracs
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Montney or Duvernay formations
  • Experience with ValNav or Enersight
  • BCOGC or APEGA P.ENG certification
  • Successful track record in active, fast-paced asset environments
