Departmental Overview

The Department of Neuroscience launched in July 2024, and will advance the understanding of brain, mind, and behavior through research, education and training. Our faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and postdoctoral researchers study how the brain functions in health and disease, how it generates behavior and thought, and how it computes. We investigate the nervous system on levels ranging from molecules and cells, to neural circuits and systems, to behavior and cognition, to neural computation. We also develop neurotechnology and explore the impacts of neuroscience on society.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the lab PI and senior lab staff, assist in recruiting and managing research participants.
  • Under the direction of the lab PI and senior lab staff, assist with collecting functional MRI data from human participants, using the MRI machines installed in the Henry H. Wheeler Brain Imaging Center.
  • Assist the lab PI and senior lab staff in performing computer programming necessary to support the human experiments (e.g., the implementation of appropriate stimuli and tasks).
  • Assist the lab PI and senior lab staff in statistical analysis of the collected data. Collects fMRI and other types of cognitive neuroscience data, prepare experimental stimuli and tasks, pre-process data, model data, and prepare project summaries.
  • Perform general laboratory tasks that may be assigned such as ordering supplies, cleaning the lab, and so on. Responsible for general paperwork, purchasing and reimbursement, subject coordination and payment; and any other general laboratory tasks that may be assigned.

  • Good interpersonal skills and communication ability
  • Familiarity with python or other advanced programming languages
  • BA or BS in neuroscience, computer science, or engineering related fields and/or equivalent experience/training

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in fMRI experiments and data processing
  • Experience with statistics and statistical software
  • Demonstrated familiarity/skills with Linux

This is a full-time career position.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted hourly rate that the University expects to pay for this position is $26.52 (step 1).

This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Research Support Professionals Unit (RX) between the University of California and the University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE).
