Unit Description
9ST is a 48-bed adult cardiovascular surgical unit, working closely with CVICU, providing care for cardiac surgery, transplant, and VAD patients. Orientation includes two phases focusing on cardiac surgical and complex transplant care. We pride ourselves on quality and patient satisfaction, welcoming new nurses seeking a rewarding career.
Major Responsibilities
- Assess patient needs, plan, implement, and evaluate care, involving patients and families.
- Recognize and respond to significant patient condition changes, collaborating with the healthcare team.
- Implement safety strategies, assess patient and family learning needs, and develop educational approaches.
- Coordinate discharge planning with an interdisciplinary team, applying evidence-based practices.
- Evaluate outcomes, support quality initiatives, and participate in shared governance.
- Communicate effectively, promote collaboration, and assume leadership roles.
- Identify safety threats, report incidents, and help implement corrective actions.
- Apply ethical decision-making, respect team members, and participate in care planning.
- Engage in quality and professional development activities.
- Provide age-appropriate care, understanding growth and development principles.
Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA.
- Completion of an accredited nursing program.
- Minimum 1 year of clinical nursing experience.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records and communication skills.
- Ability to make independent decisions, organize, prioritize, and work collaboratively.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, perform transfers, and work with hazardous materials safely.
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, and manual skills for procedures.
