Job summary

Washington University in St. Louis is seeking a Radiologic Technologist to perform fluoroscopy and C-Arm imaging for MSK spine and joint injections.

You will work with PM&R physicians, ensuring accurate imaging, patient safety, and efficient procedural flow in a state-of-the-art suite. The role requires setup of imaging equipment, adherence to ALARA, and collaboration with clinical staff to support outpatient MSK workflows.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of AHRA/ accredited radiography program.
• ARRT certification and BLS within one month of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform fluoroscopy/C-Arm imaging for spine and joint injections.
• Prepare and maintain imaging equipment, sterile trays, and C-Arm positioning.
• Assist PM&R physicians with real-time imaging during interventional MSK procedures.
• Identify and troubleshoot imaging challenges for spine and joint anatomy.
• Communicate with patients regarding preparation, positioning, and safety.
• Ensure patient safety and comfort during positioning for injections.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and staff to facilitate procedural flow.
• Provide patient education on procedural expectations and post-procedure care.
• Follow ALARA radiation safety principles and maintain sterile technique.
• Conduct daily equipment quality control and report safety concerns.
• Monitor patient responses and intervene as needed.
• Maintain documentation and upload fluoroscopic images to PACS/EHR.
• Enter charges and procedural codes contemporaneously with imaging services.
• Support efficient patient throughput while maintaining imaging quality.
• Participate in continuing education and quality improvement.

Position Summary

SAINT LOUIS, MO 63110 | 40 hours per week

This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing team at the new WashU-owned and operated fluoroscopy suite in Sunset Hills. The Radiologic Technologist performs specialized diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures using fluoroscopy and C‑arm equipment, with a focus on musculoskeletal (MSK) spine and joint steroid injection procedures. In this role, you will work side by side with world‑class, academic PM&R physicians, gaining hands‑on experience in advanced procedural techniques while ensuring accurate imaging, patient safety, and procedural efficiency. The technologist supports outpatient PM&R procedural workflows, promotes patient comfort, and strictly adheres to radiation safety and infection control standards. Position performs diagnostic radiographic examinations, applying principles of radiation protection and principles of effective patient care.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform fluoroscopy/C‑arm imaging for spine and joint steroid injections, including epidural, facet, sacroiliac, and peripheral joint injections.
• Prepare and maintain imaging equipment, sterile procedural trays, and C‑arm positioning for interventional MSK procedures.
• Assist PM&R physicians with real‑time imaging during complex MSK procedures, ensuring optimal visualization of bony and soft tissue structures.
• Identify and troubleshoot imaging challenges specific to spine and joint anatomy and procedural requirements.
• Communicate with patients regarding procedure preparation, positioning, and safety precautions.
• Ensure patient safety and comfort during positioning for spine and joint injections.
• Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and clinical staff to facilitate smooth procedural flow.
• Provide patient education on procedural expectations and post‑procedure care.
• Follow ALARA radiation safety principles and maintain proper sterile technique throughout MSK procedures.
• Conduct daily equipment quality control and report any malfunctions or safety concerns.
• Monitor patient responses during procedures and intervene as appropriate, including recognizing complications.
• Maintain accurate procedural documentation and upload fluoroscopic images to PACS/EHR.
• Enter charges and procedural codes contemporaneously with imaging services.
• Support efficient patient throughput while maintaining high‑quality imaging standards.
• Participate in continuing education, in‑services, and quality improvement initiatives related to interventional MSK imaging and procedural techniques.
• Stay current on advances in MSK fluoroscopy, injection guidance, and spine/joint imaging best practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

• Clinical environment with potential exposure to radiation; strict adherence to safety and protective protocols is required.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, assist with patient positioning, and operate/handle C‑arm equipment during procedures.
• May support procedural scheduling and perform limited administrative tasks as needed.
• Must be able to wear a lead vest for multiple hours throughout the day during fluoroscopy procedures.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (AHRA) or an accredited radiography program.

Certifications / Professional Licenses

• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association or American Red Cross); certification must be obtained within one month of hire date and must include a skills assessment.
• Radiography Certification and Registration – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

• Advanced imaging skills specific to spine/joint positioning and fluoroscopic technique.
• Associate degree – Radiologic Technology (preferred).

Salary Range

$28.01 - $43.44 per hour
