Job summary

Vector Atomic, an IonQ company, is hiring a Staff Mechanical Engineer to advance quantum technologies. You will design opto-mechanical and vacuum systems, champion high-precision assembly, and drive reliability across enterprise-grade hardware.

You will lead cross-disciplinary effort, implement design standards, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring manufacturability and scalable solutions for future product roadmaps.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in Aerospace & Defense R&D or similar field.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience transitioning prototypes to small-batch production.
• Proficient in SolidWorks CAD design.
• Familiarity with GD&T and tolerance analysis.
• Knowledge of design for manufacturing and design for assembly.
• Proficient in ANSI Y14.5 mechanical drawings.

Responsibilities

• Spearhead the mechanical architecture of quantum systems bridging theory and manufacturability.
• Drive development of next-generation quantum hardware using FEA/CFD to mitigate risks.
• Lead systems-level integration of optomechanical and electromechanical assemblies with tolerance budgets.
• Govern UHV assembly and testing workflows with standardized protocols.
• Oversee PLM strategy and vendor partnerships to de-risk the supply chain.
• Audit build documentation and testing results; mentor junior engineers.
