Responsibilities

• Provide direct clinical care, including individual and group psychotherapy, to adults facing mental health and diagnostic challenges.
• Divide clinical time between Steward Residential and Steward Outpatient, maintaining a consistent presence in both settings.
• Conduct diagnostic evaluations and psychological testing and ensure timely multidisciplinary assessments and recommendations.
• Develop and deliver group psychotherapy aligned with the Steward Outpatient curriculum, including MBT, CBT, and family systems-informed groups.

Job description

The Staff Psychologist provides direct clinical care across Silver Hill Hospital's Steward Residential and Steward Outpatient programs (see below for Program Overview). The majority of the Staff Psychologist's time is spent in Steward Outpatient, where the psychologist carries programmatic development and clinical leadership responsibilities within the new and evolving program. Clinical work in both settings includes individual and group psychotherapy, diagnostic and psychological assessment, and interdisciplinary consultation and coordination. Within Steward Outpatient, the Staff Psychologist helps shape the clinical model, group curriculum, workflows, and outcome measures as the program grows, while supporting continuity of care between the residential and outpatient levels of the Steward continuum. This position also may include supervision of psychology trainees and participation in departmental and hospital-wide initiatives.Program Overview:Steward Residential is Silver Hill Hospital’s residential treatment program for executives, professionals, and adults carrying significant personal and professional responsibilities. The program provides intensive, individualized treatment grounded in evidence-based psychotherapies — including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and family and interpersonal approaches — delivered through individual and group work within a structured residential milieu.Steward Outpatient builds on the successful Steward Residential model, offering an outpatient option for executives and professionals. The program meets three days per week — two in person and one virtual — and emphasizes peer connection as a central component of the healing process. Steward Outpatient delivers a combination of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including weekly sessions of psychodrama, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mentalization-based therapy (MBT), family systems, and interpersonal process group therapy.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities:Provide direct clinical care, including individual and group psychotherapy, to adults facing mental health, substance use, and diagnostic challenges.Divide clinical time between Steward Residential and Steward Outpatient, maintaining a consistent clinical presence in both settings.Conduct diagnostic evaluations and psychological testing and ensure the timely completion of multidisciplinary assessments and treatment recommendations.Develop and deliver group psychotherapy consistent with the Steward Outpatient curriculum, including interpersonal process , CBT, MBT, and family systems–informed groups.Facilitate communication among team members, patients, and families, and engage support systems through family meetings, psychoeducation, and aftercare planning.Conduct risk assessments and provide crisis intervention, including level-of-care determination and safety planning.Coordinate care with outside providers and others included in the individual’s care .Participate actively in interdisciplinary rounds, case consultation, and treatment team meetings.Support patients across other areas of the hospital as needed.Maintain timely , accurate clinical documentation in compliance with hospital policy and regulatory and accreditation standards.Program Development and Leadership Responsibilities — Steward Outpatient:Serve as a clinical leader in the continued development of the Steward Outpatient Program, in collaboration with the Director of the Steward Program, Director of Outpatient Services, and the interdisciplinary team.Design, pilot, and refine group curricula and the weekly programmatic schedule across the three-day, in-person and virtual structure.Develop and refine clinical workflows, admission and readiness criteria, protocols, and documentation standards as the program matures.Strengthen the peer-connection and community elements central to the Steward model, including group cohesion, member engagement, and continuity across the program week.Partner with Steward Residential leadership to support integration and continuity across the Steward continuum, including step-down transitions into the outpatient program.Identify , implement, and monitor outcome measures; contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives, including protocols, policies, and departmental trainings .Support the fidelity and quality of virtual programming, including telehealth group facilitation standards.Assist with staff training in program modalities, including p sychodynamic , CBT, MBT, and family systems.Serve as a liaison and educator regarding Steward Outpatient services to internal hospital departments, referring providers, and external collaborators.Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and coverage planning as the outpatient program expands.Supervision, Teaching, and Training:Supervise psychology trainee(s) within the Steward programs and across the Psychology Department as needed.Provide clinical guidance and consultation to Steward Outpatient clinical staff on complex clinical presentations.Participate in departmental and system-wide didactics, seminars, and case conferences.Foster professional growth among team members through mentorship and coordinated training opportunities.Engage in ongoing professional development and participate in clinical supervision, staff trainings , and administrative meetings.Hospital and Departmental Responsibilities:Participate in Hospital committees as requested .Contribute to departmental initiatives, policy development, and accreditation readiness.Perform other duties customarily associated with the position of Psychologist and as required by the Director of Psychology, Chief Medical Officer, or President and Medical Director.Qualifications:Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from an accredited program.Completion of an accredited predoctoral internship and postdoctoral training in clinical psychology.Licensed as a psychologist in the State of Connecticut.Demonstrated competence in individual and group psychotherapy with adults.Training and experience in diagnostic evaluation and psychological testing.Experience with evidence-based modalities relevant to Steward programming, including psychodynamic therapy, CBT, MBT , and family systems.Experience with risk assessment, crisis intervention, and level-of-care decision-making.Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams and across systems of care.Comfort and competence delivering care in a hybrid in-person and virtual format.Preferred Qualifications:Three to five years of post-licensure clinical experience.Program development experience, particularly in launching or growing a new clinical program.Prior experience supervising psychology trainees.Experience treating executives, professionals, and other adults with significant personal and professional responsibilities, including co-occurring substance use presentations.Training or experience in psychodrama or other experiential group modalities.Physical Requirements:Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Silver Hill Hospital (“SHH”) is fully committed to equal employment and advancement opportunities for all present employees as well as for applicants in all phases of the employment process (recruitment, hiring, assignment, conditions of employment, compensation, benefits, training, promotion, transfer, discipline and termination).
