Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a Staff Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineer to own propulsion hardware from concept through production release for the V‑BAT team. You will design components, perform rigorous analyses, and drive designs toward flight‑ready production, balancing mass, stiffness, cost, manufacturability, and reliability.

The role requires hands‑on hardware work, producing CAD models and drawings, and coordinating ECOs with manufacturing, QA, and flight test teams.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
• 5+ years of professional mechanical design experience.
• Strong proficiency with 3D CAD modeling and detailed mechanical design.
• Experience developing production‑ready drawings and documentation.
• Understanding of GD&T and manufacturing processes.
• Experience owning components through full lifecycle from concept to production.

Responsibilities

• Design propulsion system components and subsystems for V-BAT, including fuel/oil delivery hardware and engine components.
• Perform mechanical analysis: static strength, stiffness, fatigue, vibration, thermal behavior; guide designs with calculations and FEA where appropriate.
• Create and maintain high‑quality CAD models and drawing packages; route wire harnesses and plumbing.
• Own ECOs from problem definition through release; coordinate with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and flight test teams.
• Analyze test data from ground and flight testing to verify structural, thermal, vibration, and durability requirements.
• Support integration with electrical, aero‑performance, software, and flight‑test engineers; drive corrective actions for field issues.
