Job description

Job Description At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard — from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features. Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale. At General Motors, we are working to create a future with zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion.

The Role

This role offers the opportunity to help transform how vehicles are developed by scaling virtual engineering and calibration methods across complex hardware and software systems. You will join a cross-functional team advancing co-simulation (CoSIM)—the coordinated simulation of physical-system models and virtual electronic control units to help engineering teams evaluate and calibrate vehicle capabilities earlier, faster and with fewer physical prototypes. The work connects software, controls, systems engineering, calibration, validation and vehicle-program execution in a high-visibility environment where practical execution and technical judgment matter.

What You’ll Do
  • Own the integrated CoSIM and calibration execution roadmap, including scope, milestones, dependencies, decision points, resource needs and measurable outcomes.
  • Lead cross-functional execution across calibration, controls, software, systems engineering, validation, vehicle programs, test facilities and external partners to deliver agreed capabilities on time and with quality.
  • Establish and maintain a clear operating model for intake, prioritization, ownership, handoffs, issue escalation and decision-making across program and capability work.
  • Drive readiness of the virtual assets required for execution, including simulation variants, plant and controller models, calibration inputs, test scenarios, data and supporting tools.
  • Partner with technical leaders to define repeatable calibration and regression workflows, including version control, traceability, approval paths, release readiness and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and resolve technical, organizational and schedule risks; surface trade-offs early and provide leadership with concise status, options and recommendations.
  • Create transparent reporting for program health, capability maturity, adoption, quality, cycle time, physical-asset utilization and other agreed success measures.
  • Represent the initiative in senior leadership reviews and technical forums, translating complex engineering issues into clear business decisions and actionable commitments.
  • Mentor program and technical leads and build a culture of ownership, collaboration, urgency and fact-based problem solving.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated success leading technically complex, cross-functional programs from strategy through implementation and operational adoption.
  • Practical understanding of vehicle controls, embedded software, calibration, virtual validation or related engineering-development workflows.
  • Experience coordinating teams through ambiguity, competing priorities, dependencies and issues without relying solely on formal authority.
  • Strong written, verbal and executive communication skills, including the ability to present risks, decisions and recommendations to senior leaders.
  • Demonstrated ownership of outcomes, disciplined follow-through and a commitment to safety, quality and customer needs.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience with co-simulation, software-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop, model-based development or other virtual engineering methods.
  • Experience with automotive calibration, propulsion or vehicle-motion controls, embedded controllers, plant models or system-level testing.
  • Experience scaling engineering capabilities across multiple programs, architectures or product teams.
  • Familiarity with automated regression, continuous integration and continuous delivery, data-driven engineering or version-controlled calibration repositories.
  • Experience defining governance, responsibility models, standard work, readiness criteria and performance metrics for a new capability.
  • Knowledge of vehicle development milestones and the interactions among software, hardware, calibration, validation and vehicle-program teams.
  • Experience reducing physical-test dependency, improving first-time quality or shortening development-cycle time through process and technology innovation.
Behavioral Competencies

Win with Integrity: Build trust through transparent commitments, sound judgment and honest escalation. Lead as One Team: Align diverse technical teams around a common outcome and collaborate across organizational boundaries. Own the Outcome: Take accountability for delivery, including dependencies outside the immediate team. Commit to Customers: Focus virtual engineering improvements on the needs of calibration teams, engineering partners and vehicle programs. Move with Urgency: Convert ambiguity into an executable plan and remove roadblocks before they affect critical-path milestones. Innovate and Embrace Change: Challenge existing methods and scale better ways of working when evidence supports the change.
