Onterris, a leading environmental solutions company, seeks a Staff Professional (Geologist/Scientist) for onsite and field work from Valley Forge, PA. The role supports projects across the northeast with field sampling, data collection, and client coordination.

Qualifications

Our Staff Professional (Geologist/Scientist) is an onsite/in-office and field-based position out of our Valley Forge, PA office and will support projects and field work within the northeast region including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Maryland. This position will occasionally involve local and out-of-state overnight travel and may require work outside of normal business hours (evenings and weekends) as needed. It should be noted that opportunities may become available to earn additional compensation through overtime and on-call projects that operate outside of normal business hours.

The Staff Professional will be supported in all aspects of an environmental and/or geologic assignment. Daily interaction with colleagues, clients, the public, and subcontractors will be normal; adaptability and excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

The annual salary range for this role is $53,000 to $63,000 commensuratewith experience, skills and geographic location.

  • Work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, with peers, seniors, and our clients to build and strengthen relationships
  • Be present and engaged in team and client meetings and share ideas
  • Conduct field work at client sites to collect data. Fieldwork activities may include soil, groundwater, soil vapor, surface water and other media sampling including maintenance of monitoring equipment at various locations.
  • Assist with research and data collection efforts as requested by project managers.
  • Prepare environmental guidance documents, permit applications, compliance plans, and other resources for clients.
  • Supervision of subcontractors in the field.
  • Participate in emergency response activities (including 24/7 on-call rotation).
  • Be knowledgeable of regulatory standards in environmental technical areas of responsibility
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times, both within Onterris and for our clients and affiliates
  • Exercise safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including completion of all required safety training programs.
  • Participate in the company’s continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.
  • Keep up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops.
  • Ability to engage in out-of-state field projects, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Hydrology, or an allied science from an accredited four-year college or university
  • 0-3 years of environmental consulting (or similar) experience
  • Must have valid Driver’s License; reliable and consistent means of transportation; and ability to pass Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • Base knowledge of common field equipment preferred, but ability to learn and deploy commonly used field equipment (such as water quality meters, sampling equipment, air monitoring equipment, and GPS location equipment) is required.
  • Ability to perform in-field physical activities (including lifting and carrying equipment).
  • Exhibit discretion and good judgement; always maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work well under pressure with multiple deadlines.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to consistently record geological data in the field with care and accuracy, and interpret results
  • Ability to research geological information and apply it to projects
  • Strong competence with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Foxit or ADOBE, Google Earth, and the ability to learn proprietary analytical systems.
  • Basic acquaintance with environmental regulations
  • Willing to periodically join on-call projects, and respond to work outside of normal business hours.
  • This position can be physically demanding and with work environments/conditions requiring an individual to be capable of physical field duties. Assignments may entail large project areas, distance travel on foot, over various terrains and in adverse weather conditions. Capable of executing physical demands associated with typical environmental field duties, as verified through an annual physical examination.
  • The work environment will vary greatly depending on the nature of assigned tasks, this position will occasionally involve local and out-of-state travel and may require work outside of normal business hours (evenings and weekends) as needed.
  • 40-Hr OSHA HAZWOPER training a plus
  • Prior environmental consulting experience with industrial, municipal, and federal clientele is a plus
