Job summary

Faire is a technology wholesale platform powering the shop local movement by building scalable search and discovery experiences for retailers. As Staff Engineer for Search FX, you will own the technical roadmap for retailer-facing search surfaces, bridging high-scale infrastructure with exceptional UX.

You will lead architecture for composable search, integrate LLM-powered features, and mentor engineers while collaborating with Data Science, Product, and Design to improve ranking and retrieval.

Qualifications

• 7+ years software engineering experience with 3+ years in technical leadership.
• Strong user-first mindset and ability to translate problems into direction.
• Experience partnering with Data Science on ML and gen-AI in search.
• Knowledge of search/query processing including Elasticsearch/Lucene.
• Proficient in Kotlin or Java; backend systems, Protocol Buffers, MySQL.
• Strategic leadership and ability to influence team roadmap.

Responsibilities

• Architect Next-Gen Search: lead design of composable grids and ranking.
• Modernize Query Understanding using LLMs for better long-tail queries.
• Optimize Performance: increase retrieval candidates while preserving latency.
• Launch AI-Driven Features like Search Missions using offline pipelines.
• Bridge AI and UX with SDUI and React Server Components.
• Own system reliability and observability of the search funnel.
