It pairs technology with grantmaking to translate learning science into classroom practice, and offers open, public-purpose infrastructure — including a Knowledge Graph of academic standards, Evaluators for measuring model quality in educational contexts, and Agent Skills — that partners such as Canva, Diffit, and Playlab build on.### The roleThis Staff Product Designer role owns developer experience end to end. The platform has shipped its foundation; the next phase is about what developers do with it. You would set direction rather than inherit it, building a point of view on what drives sustained use and then building the product: developer integration flows, a platform that reads as one coherent system, and a clear access model underneath. The role sits within a team that includes a design systems lead and other designers.### What you would do* Own developer experience end to end, forming a view on what drives sustained use through research, usage data, and direct partner contact, and turning that into a roadmap the organization aligns behind.* Design developer integration views from scratch, giving developers visibility into how their integrations are performing across usage, quality, errors, and impact.* Lead systematic design work across platform, catalog, docs, and marketing surfaces, setting patterns and information architecture rather than applying existing ones.* Extend the dataset catalog and access experience with new features, richer discovery, and the permission and organization models underneath.* Set the craft bar for the team, mentor designers, partner with the design systems lead to get patterns adopted, and act as a reviewer others seek out.### What they are looking for* At least 8 years of professional experience.* Strong visual craft combined with product thinking; the ability to bring brand expression into the product is required.* Experience closing the loop with design systems so that recommendations land in the system rather than remaining one-off solutions.* A track record of owning an entire product or platform in production, setting its direction, framing ambiguous problems, and making explicit value and risk tradeoffs.* Strong systems instincts and technical depth: comfort with permissions, organization models, multi-surface navigation, reading API references, and designing within real engineering constraints.* Comfort with AI-native working methods, including prototyping in code and validating early rather than running a linear design cycle.### Working arrangementsThis is a hybrid role based at Learning Commons' headquarters at 1180 Main Street, Redwood City, CA. You would be required to be on-site for at least 60% of the working month, approximately 3 days a week, with specific in-office days determined by the team's manager.### Pay and benefitsThe Redwood City, CA base pay range for a new hire is $170,000 - $235,400 per year. New hires are typically placed in the lower portion of the range. Actual placement is based on job-related skills and experience. The position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual performance bonus. Additional benefits include a generous employer 401(k) match, paid volunteer time off, funding for select family-forming benefits, and relocation support.## DetailsLocation: Redwood City, USAOn-site or remote: HybridSalary: $170,000 - $235,400Sector: EducationRole: Product designSeniority: StaffOrganisation: CharityThis job is listed on the Hard Problems job board, but details come from the employer’s own listing and may have changed — always check the original posting.
