Job summary

DigitalOcean seeks a staff-level product designer to own the console experience end to end—from navigation to daily workflows. You will treat the design system itself as the product: own the component library, patterns, and visual/interaction standards and roadmap with the engineering team.

You will set the craft bar for the entire product suite, build reusable patterns, and ensure cohesive UI across dozens of teams.

Qualifications

• Staff-level product design experience with a proven track record of building and scaling a design system across many products or teams.
• A systems thinker who designs for reuse and consistency at scale rather than one-off screens.
• Strong craft across interaction, visual, and information design, with a portfolio showing measurable UX impact.
• Experience influencing across dozens of teams via standards, partnership, and persuasion.
• Comfort being the most senior designer in the room and owning the creative direction.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end design of the console experience, from first login through daily workflows for users' entire experience.
• Treat the design system itself as the product: own the component library, patterns, and visual/interaction standards with the engineering team.
• Set the craft and quality bar for the whole product suite, with a review process to ensure consistent UI.
• Build reusable, high-leverage patterns to avoid custom screens per team.
• Own the highest-visibility shared surfaces as reference examples for other teams.
• Collaborate with engineering to ensure designs land as intended and grow the UI engineers' design skills.
• Make simplicity and strong UX a differentiator, backing requests with evidence of payoff.
• Own the creative vision for the console and advocate for the overall experience, not just consistency.
