Who Are You?

You are a designer who finds satisfaction in transforming complex challenges into simple, intuitive user experiences. Driven by curiosity, you analyze workflows with clarity, questioning assumptions and uncovering user needs that others might miss. Great design for you is about intuitive interactions—making complex processes accessible and obvious.

You are comfortable with ambiguity, viewing uncertainty as an opportunity for creative solutions. Your designs are not just aesthetic but feel intuitive, improving user efficiency and reducing errors. You are eager to shape transformative user experiences at this pivotal moment in our company's growth.

Your strength is collaboration within a team comprising a Product Lead and Tech Lead, working cohesively towards shared goals. You leverage tools like Figma to create, iterate, and validate designs, fostering alignment and rapid feedback.

What makes this role unique:

At Aiwyn Tax, success depends on balancing two user experiences—internal SMEs managing our tax engine and external CPAs preparing and reviewing returns.

Internally, you will design interfaces for SMEs to test, validate, and manage our tax engine, streamlining tasks like creating test cases, identifying discrepancies, and making corrections. These workflows mirror tax return processes but focus on testing and validation.

Externally, you will craft user journeys for CPAs and firm partners handling tax preparation, reviews, corrections, and approvals. Your designs will aim to reduce cognitive load and prevent errors, guiding users clearly through each step.

Your design approach must be adaptable, intuitive, and flexible, enabling users to refine workflows efficiently. Collaboration with product and engineering teams is essential to push design boundaries.

This role involves reimagining how tax professionals interact with complex workflows, setting new standards of clarity and usability that influence product direction.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design intuitive workflows to simplify complex tax processes, minimizing errors and cognitive load.
  2. Collaborate effectively with Product and Tech Leads, ensuring alignment from strategy to execution.
  3. Create rapid prototypes using tools like Figma, validating designs through iterative feedback.
  4. Develop flexible solutions that adapt to real-time user interactions and workflows.
  5. Document design decisions clearly to communicate the 'why' behind choices, maintaining team alignment.
  6. Influence design culture by mentoring colleagues and shaping team standards.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Improved SME productivity and user satisfaction.
  • Quick identification and resolution of usability issues.
  • Strong alignment with cross-functional teams during implementation.
  • Development of scalable, innovative design methodologies.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 7+ years designing complex B2B SaaS products with high cognitive demands.
  • Ability to simplify complex interactions through user-centered design.
  • Experience collaborating within cross-functional teams, especially with product managers and engineers.
  • Proficiency with rapid prototyping and tools like Figma.
  • Excellent communication of design rationale.

Preferred:

  • Experience or interest in accounting, finance, or tax software.
  • Experience mentoring designers and shaping team practices.

Benefits and Perks:

  • Competitive salary with the freedom to solve meaningful problems at a fast-growing SaaS startup led by experienced founders.
  • Additional benefits include:
  • Travel stipend - $1,000 annually for travel.
  • Remote work culture
  • Flexible PTO
  • Health benefits - including health, vision, dental, HSA/FSA, mental health support.
  • Stock options - ownership in the company.
  • 401(k) matching

Our Values:

  • Trust: Transparency, accountability, respect for diverse perspectives.
  • Courage: Embrace change and calculated risks.
  • Impact: Focused on meaningful results through innovation.
  • Relentlessness: Persistent pursuit of excellence.
