Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems in Iuka, MS is seeking a Staff Structural Engineer to lead aerospace structural analyses for discrepant parts and repairs. You will develop detailed analysis reports, document the results, and support MRB/ASIP activities to ensure airworthiness.

The role requires collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, mentoring of engineers, and experience with FEMAP/NX Nastran. DoD clearance eligibility is preferred and often required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with significant aerospace structural analysis experience (12+ yrs for BS, 10+ for MS, 8+ for PhD).
  • Experience with bonded composite or metallic primary/secondary aircraft structures.
  • Proficiency in finite element analysis and MRB related activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and document detailed structural analyses for discrepant parts and assemblies.
  • Support MRB and ASIP programs with rigorous analyses and documentation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Prepare hand-sheet analyses and manage large Finite Element Models.

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff Structural Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals located in Iuka, MS. Candidate should be proficient in classical static strength hand analysis, Durability and Damage Tolerance (DaDT) analysis, and finite element modeling and analysis for discrepant detail parts and assemblies fabricated from metal and composite materials. Should be able to develop and document detailed structural analyses in support of aircraft repairs including but not limited to free body diagrams, internal or external loading, shear and moment diagrams, and calculation of internal stresses. Analyses will be in support of Material Review Board (MRB), and Aircraft Structural Integrity Program (ASIP). Aircraft structural design criteria, and nonstandard repair and equivalent strength analysis background is a plus. Candidate must be able to collaborate in a team environment, mentor less experienced personnel, prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result, prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplish them simultaneously, comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions. Knowledge of Manufacturing Execution System/ MES, and a Northrop Grumman MRB EN/ST signature is a plus.

Basic Qualifications
  • Staff Engineer: Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 12 years' experience to include a background in aerospace structural analysis or Master's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of 10 years' experience to include a background in aerospace structural analysis or PhD in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with a minimum of 8 years' experience to include a background in aerospace structural analysis Experience in bonded composite OR metallic structural analysis of primary and secondary aircraft structures. Experience with finite element analysis Proficiency in structural analysis methods and documentation, including hand-sheet analysis and large Finite Element Model manipulation. Experience with MRB related activities. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering (ME/AE) with minimum of 9 years of experience in structural analysis.
  • Experience working on an ASIP managed platform.
  • Experience with crack growth software-AFGROW.
  • Familiarity with FEMAP/NX Nastran.
  • Experience with the development of dispositions for Airframe discrepancies.
  • Experience with performing repairs on primary structure made of composite materials.
  • Active DoD secret clearance or above.
Primary Level Salary Range

Primary Level Salary Range: $144,900.00 - $217,300.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
