Job summary

General Motors in Mountain View, CA seeks hands-on Staff or Principal Software Engineers for in-vehicle AI experiences. You will work primarily in Kotlin and Android Automotive, owning features end to end across the in-vehicle assistant stack and related services.

You will mentor engineers, shape the roadmap, and contribute to AI-assisted development while maintaining high quality and production readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering or related field.
• Staff: 8+ years; Principal: 10+ years of production software experience.
• Strong Kotlin/Java/C++/Python skills with Android focus.
• Proven ability to deliver complex, user-facing features across components.
• Ability to turn goals into concrete designs and incremental plans.

Responsibilities

• Define and build driver-facing capabilities from concept through production.
• Own features end to end—from driver requests to on-device fulfillment and UI.
• Write production Kotlin and contribute to Python-based agent definitions and NLU.
• Prototype new experiences and validate in realistic vehicle environments.
• Collaborate with Product, UX, conversation design, vehicle software, safety, and more.
• Make pragmatic tradeoffs among value, speed, reliability, latency, and safety.
• Diagnose issues across app, assistant, vehicle, and cloud boundaries.
• Use AI-assisted workflows to accelerate design, implementation, testing, and debugging.
• Establish reusable patterns and lightweight workflows to speed delivery.
• Mentor engineers through reviews and direct technical collaboration.
• Shape the roadmap for in-vehicle AI experiences and opportunities from tech advances.
