Job description

Electric Hydrogen

Mission: To make molecules to decarbonize our world! Our outstanding people are our most important asset and will enable us to deliver hydrogen from renewable electrolysis for heavy industry at prices below fossil fuels.

We are seeking a Staff Power Systems Engineer to develop connection specifications between the Electric Hydrogen power system and the medium voltage utility grid. This role involves managing all aspects of electrical installation design, including reviewing third-party EPC designs and conducting internal designs. The engineer will perform power systems analysis using modeling and simulation software to evaluate system characteristics such as load, power flows, short circuit analysis, transient stability, and operational stability with active linear loads.

This position is onsite in San Jose, CA and reports to the Director, Power Platform.

Role and Responsibilities
  1. Research and develop electrical/electronic systems, components, equipment, and networks, focusing on control and optimization.
  2. Manage electrical designs, including utility interconnection, medium voltage AC collection systems, high current rectifiers, DC busing, and microgrid design, along with system integration plans.
  3. Perform electrical studies such as load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash analysis, and harmonic load flow.
  4. Select components and equipment based on detailed specifications analysis.
  5. Analyze systems and equipment to verify operating data and evaluate performance.
  6. Develop new techniques and methodologies for control and integration of diverse energy resources.
  7. Apply risk analysis to evaluate power system change impacts and mitigation strategies.
  8. Mentor or lead other engineers on medium-sized projects.
  9. Evaluate safety risks and mitigations in operations and maintenance contexts.
Qualifications
  1. BSc in electrical engineering or related field.
  2. Over 10 years of relevant experience in electrical power systems.
  3. Experience with EPC design in large industrial power and renewable generation sectors.
  4. Expertise in power system protection analysis and implementation.
  5. Knowledge of medium voltage and substation design, SCADA systems.
  6. Field experience with power generation, distribution, and utility operations.
  7. Professional Engineer license.
  8. Ability to independently run analyses and projects.
Additional Information

Compensation ranges from $168,000 to $224,000 USD, with additional benefits including equity, time off, allowances, retirement matching, comprehensive health coverage, and bonuses. Benefits are subject to eligibility.
