Job summary

Cortex is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to own the architecture of our infrastructure and platform. You will lead foundational platform work to keep us scalable, reliable, and secure as we grow, including the deploy pipeline, multi-tenant isolation, and FedRAMP-class requirements for government deployments.

You will collaborate with engineering leadership and product to translate platform capabilities into customer offerings, with a focus on reliability, security, and scalable operations in

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of hands-on experience designing, operating, and scaling high-performance production systems.
• Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform) expertise.
• Strong database proficiency (Postgres) with performance, availability, and migrations at scale.
• Architectural judgment at system and cross-team level, considering blast radius and failure modes.
• Working proficiency in at least one JVM language; able to debug or ship changes where infra and app meet.
• Security mindset: IaC, secrets management, least privilege, and common appsec risks.
• Fluent use of AI in day-to-day engineering; review AI output carefully.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities; capable of setting tech direction.
• FedRAMP/FISMA or government/compliance deployment experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Define architecture and best practices for platform and infrastructure.
• Own the deploy pipeline and move to GitOps (Argo) for fast, safe releases.
• Design multi-tenant isolation and blast-radius protections for top-tier customers.
• Lead database stabilization and platform work behind performance and migrations.
• Build infrastructure foundations for compliance-heavy deployments.
• Set observability, on-call, and operational readiness standards.
• Translate platform capabilities into customer-facing offerings with leadership and product.
