Job summary

GitHub is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Enterprise Platform to build AI governance, policy controls, and observability across GitHub and Copilot. You’ll design and operate scalable platforms, with emphasis on state management, workflows, and clear API contracts.

This hands‑on role focuses on cross‑team integration, reliability, and production ownership, requiring deep engineering experience and strong collaboration with product, design, and security teams.

Qualifications

• 9+ years of software engineering experience with production software
• Experience maintaining and delivering production software in multiple languages listed
• 2+ years in technical leadership roles such as technical lead
• Experience building enterprise capabilities like policy enforcement, configuration management, or auditing

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, ship, and support backend services and APIs for enterprise configuration, policy enforcement, and auditing
• Develop clear domain models and API/event contracts including ownership and lifecycles
• Implement workflows across dependent services with explicit state transitions and idempotent ops
• Lead architecture decisions by framing the customer problem and tradeoffs
• Remain close to implementation through coding, debugging, and code review
• Partner with upstream/downstream teams to agree on integration contracts and migrations
• Own service health through telemetry, alerts, incidents, and on‑call rotations
• Establish success criteria before launch using tests, telemetry, and customer feedback
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines and release practices
• Write architecture briefs and proposals to align teams
• Drive a technical roadmap balancing customer needs with reliability and cost
