Job description

Inspiren offers the most complete and connected ecosystem in senior living. Founded by Michael Wang, a former Green Beret turned cardiothoracic nurse, Inspiren proves that compassionate care and technology can coexist - bringing peace of mind to residents, families, and staff.

Our integrated solutions seamlessly fit into existing workflows, capturing everything happening within a community. Backed by nurse specialists and powerful analytics, we provide the data operators need to make informed clinical and operational decisions - driving efficiency, profitability, and better care outcomes.

About the Role

We are looking for a Staff Platform Engineer to take ownership of our infrastructure and developer experience. This is a unique role for someone who wants to remain deeply hands-on while also leading a small team of 2–4 engineers. You’ll consolidate responsibilities currently distributed across the org, and transition Platform Engineering into a focused, high-performing function inside Inspiren.

You’ll partner closely with product engineering, data, and hardware teams while driving our efforts in CI/CD, observability, security, and compliance. This role combines technical depth with leadership: you’ll write code and build systems while also mentoring others and shaping the future of the team.

What you'll do
  • Infrastructure Management: Own the scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency of our cloud-based infrastructure. Proactively monitor capacity to match growth, troubleshoot and resolve issues, and implement backups and disaster recovery processes.
  • Observability & Incident Response: Build and operate monitoring, logging, and alerting systems (CloudWatch, Sentry, etc.) to detect issues before they impact customers. Participate in on-call, lead incident response, and drive blameless postmortems to continuously improve MTTR.
  • CI/CD & Releases: Design, implement, and optimize pipelines that automate builds, tests, and deployments. Establish rollback procedures and runbooks for failed deployments, and continuously improve automation for both speed and reliability.
  • Automated Quality: Implement a comprehensive automated testing strategy within CI/CD. Configure quality gates, integrate static analysis and security scans, expand unit and integration test coverage, and build dashboards to provide visibility into pipeline health.
  • Security & Compliance: Apply and enforce security best practices in infrastructure, IAM, and deployments. Support SOC2 and HIPAA compliance through robust access controls, data protection strategies, and secure coding practices.
  • Engineering Excellence: Partner with product and application engineers to ensure architectural decisions are reliable and scalable. Build a seamless onboarding experience so new engineers can set up environments quickly and confidently deploy their first changes.
About You
  • Experience: 8+ years in DevOps, SRE, or Platform/Infrastructure roles, with some leadership experience mentoring or guiding a small team.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Hands-on with AWS (Lambda, SQS, SNS, CloudFront, S3, RDS, etc.), scaling infrastructure, troubleshooting production workloads, and optimizing cost and performance. Strong experience with serverless architectures.
  • CI/CD & Releases: Proven track record building and refining pipelines (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Jenkins) with automated deployments, feature flags, rollbacks, backups, and disaster recovery.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Skilled with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools to manage infrastructure at scale.
  • Observability & Monitoring: Strong experience with monitoring/telemetry tools (Datadog, CloudWatch, New Relic, Sentry), setting up dashboards, configuring alerts, and running incident response.
  • Automated Quality: Familiarity with integrating tests, static analysis, and quality gates into CI/CD pipelines.
  • IoT & Edge Systems: Familiarity with IoT platforms (e.g., AWS IoT Core), embedded Linux environments, and media/streaming pipelines (e.g., gStreamer). Experience with OTA update frameworks (e.g., Mender, Yocto) is a plus.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Excited to transition Platform Engineering in-house, mentor engineers, and partner across Product, Data, and Hardware.
Bonus Points
  • Edge Device Management: Experience managing large fleets of distributed devices (IoT gateways, sensors, cameras), including provisioning, version management, and remote updates.
  • Fleet Observability: Built monitoring and telemetry for hardware devices to track uptime, failures, and performance.
  • Security for Edge: Exposure to secure boot, TPM, encryption at rest, or data protection strategies for edge devices.
  • Compliance: Experience with SOC2, HIPAA, or other regulated environments where both hardware and cloud must meet strict standards.
Details
  • The annual salary for this role is $180,000-$220,000 + equity + benefits (including medical, dental, and vision)
  • Flexible PTO
  • Location: Remote, US or Canada. NYC preferred.
  • Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender perception or identity, national origin, age, marital status, protected veteran status, or disability status.
