–STEVEN W. ETOCH, M.D.

Medical Director, Cardiac Surgery

Norton Heart & Vascular Institute

NORTON HEART & VASCULAR INSTITUTEis seeking an adult cardiac surgeon with experience in mechanical circulatory support. The ideal candidate will join the Norton Heart & Vascular Institute cardiac surgery team, an established practice that provides comprehensive cardiac surgical services at Norton Audubon Hospital and Norton Hospital. Providers with this practice complete an average of 1,100 surgical procedures annually, including nearly 200 transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures. A strong referral pattern exists within Norton Heart & Vascular Institute, which maintains 56% of the cardiovascular market share in our area, more than any other health care system in the area.

In collaboration with the Norton Heart & Vascular Institute Advanced Heart Failure & Recovery Program, members of this team provide surgical services for an established Mechanical Circulatory Support Program. This multidisciplinary program has been designated as an accredited ventricular assist device (VAD) program by DNV Healthcare and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. In addition, Norton Heart & Vascular Institute is a member of the UK Gill Heart & Vascular Institute Affiliate Network, working collaboratively to provide access to heart transplantation services through the established transplant program at UK HealthCare in Lexington, Kentucky.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Kentucky — ahead of cancer or any other condition or injury. In 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Kentucky as No. 8 in the country for deaths due to heart disease. Because of this increasing patient need, the Norton Heart & Vascular Institute cardiac surgery team works closely with a cardiac intensivist in a newly designated 12-bed cardiac intensive care unit at Norton Audubon Hospital, as well as with interventional cardiologists and electrophysiologists within Norton Heart & Vascular Institute. Together, these specialists provide the latest in surgical capabilities, including hybrid ablation, TAVR, transcatheter mitral valve repair and replacement, and a full suite of minimally invasive and open surgical capabilities.

·Preferred candidates will have at least one to two years of experience.
