Job summary

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is seeking a Staff Physician to perform medical evaluations of potential Correction Officer candidates and determine their fitness for duty. You will review medical documentation, testing results, and private physician records to ensure candidate qualifications.

Requirements include a valid NY medical license, board certification or approved certification pathway, and relevant epidemiology/ Public Health credentials.

Qualifications

• valid license to practice medicine in NY state.
• board certification or current approved application to certifying examination.
• 2+ years epidemiology experience may substitute.
• completion of residency in internal medicine or related field.

Responsibilities

• Perform medical examinations of candidates to evaluate fitness for duty.
• Review medical documentation from private physicians and labs.
• Utilize medical equipment/tests to determine medical qualifications for Correction Officer role.
• Answer candidate questions and assist Nursing & Support Staff.
