Job description

Works with clinical staff to ensure the safety and quality of clinical care and support for patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Supervises staff, performs patient care duties, and ensures compliance and accurate reporting.

The Division of Anesthesiology within the Department of Pediatric Medicine at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital seeks a full‑time Staff Physician‑Anesthesiologist.

The ideal candidate will be an ACGME‑accredited pediatric anesthesiology fellow‑trained BC/BE pediatric anesthesiologist with an MD, DO, or equivalent degree. Candidate must be board certified or eligible in anesthesiology and preferentially board certified or eligible in pediatric anesthesiology. Candidate must be eligible for an unrestricted medical license to practice in the State of Tennessee.

Job Responsibilities
  • Performs patient‑care duties according to established standards, general and service‑specific scopes of care, policies and procedures, and patient‑specific protocols. Demonstrates performance competency in obtaining informed consent, inquiring about medical, family, and social histories, performing physical examinations, ordering diagnostic studies, interpreting patient data, identifying appropriate treatment, monitoring patient response, facilitating referrals, providing support, and following up with other health care providers. Prescribes medications as appropriate, monitors patients, provides consultation services to nursing staff, interacts with primary physicians and families, provides reports to third party providers, acts as a participatory member of the clinical care teams, and complies with all clinical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations.
  • Directly supervises assigned staff, including performance, scheduling, continuing education, and work assignments; participates in performance appraisals; provides opportunities for staff development; implements ongoing education; facilitates clinical experience of postdoctoral fellows; promotes communication between clinic staff and fellows; participates in assessment of fellows; and engages in continuing educational efforts for nurse practitioners and other health care providers.
  • Ensures compliance with HCFA billing guidelines and other regulatory agencies; submits information and reports as required; develops mechanisms to monitor compliance and quality; works collaboratively with other clinic staff to resolve issues; develops timely, accurate, and meaningful reports; and provides periodic status reports to the Department Chair.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age‑appropriate care for patients from infancy to adolescence, including growth and development principles, age‑specific data assessment, and service for infants, toddlers, school‑age, and adolescent patients.
  • Participates in the detection, reporting, and improvement of systems to prevent patient care incidents and improve patient safety and quality.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed to meet departmental goals.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and/or Training
  • Board certified or eligible in anesthesiology is required. Board certified or eligible in pediatric anesthesiology is preferred.
Minimum Experience
  • Experience in pediatrics or a specialty area is preferred.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law
  • Unrestricted medical license to practice in the State of Tennessee.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only
  • Must maintain active unrestricted privileges at SJCRH.
Compensation

A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $283,878 – $589,576 per year for the role of Staff Physician‑Anesthesiology.
