Job summary

Qualifications

• Graduate of ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy.
• D. or a B.S degree with at least 2 years direct patient care experience.
• Current IL pharmacist license or license pending with authorization to practice in Illinois (60 days max).

Responsibilities

• Maintains and demonstrates knowledge of changing pharmacy practice.
• Communicates with patients, families, physicians and staff to discuss medication therapy; responds to requests promptly.
• Identifies and resolves drug therapy problems independently with sound professional judgement.
• Reviews and verifies orders, exercises professional judgement, and manages workflow with minimal supervision.
• Acts as a role model for staff, adheres to health system policies and behavior standards.
• Uses electronic drug information sources to provide timely, accurate drug information.
• Oversees pharmacy technicians to ensure accuracy and legal compliance.
• Prepares, dispenses and packages pharmaceuticals in accordance with state and federal law.
• Counsels patients when requested and documents interventions in the EMR.
• Contributes to training the next generation of pharmacists.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Overview

Staff pharmacists are responsible for monitoring all aspects of patient drug therapies, dispensing medications and providing drug information. As professionals, staff pharmacists serve as role models for all staff; in pharmacy practice as well as behavior. In the absence of the pharmacy manager, a staff pharmacist may be required to assume the essential responsibilities and perform the duties of the pharmacy manager.

Qualifications

Education:

• Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy required.
• D. Preferred or a B.S degree with at least 2 years, direct patient care experience.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

• Current pharmacist license in the State of Illinois or license pending with a valid Letter of Authorization to practice pharmacy in the State of Illinois required. (The maximum allowable time to practice in a license pending status under the Letter of Authorization is 60 days per licensing regulations.)

Experience:

• Health system experience strongly preferred.
