Job Description

What Health System Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health

Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices, as well as retail customers.

Health System Pharmacy provides customized pharmacy program solutions to reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals, health systems, and other healthcare providers. It also involves consulting with healthcare teams on prescribed medications, supplies, and related processes.

Cardinal Health manages the pharmacy at PAM Rehab Hospital of Humble, and we are currently recruiting for a PRN Pharmacist to work as needed covering PTO/vacation, sick time, and on-call after hours. The facility operates Monday through Friday, 8AM to 4:30PM.

Job Summary

Working in a hospital system pharmacy outsourced to Cardinal Health, the Pharmacist II adjusts and dispenses medication to patients and ensures the compliant and efficient operation of the pharmacy. Responsibilities include verifying physician orders, making medication adjustments, providing patient education, supervising Pharmacy Technicians, and managing compliance tasks related to accreditation, narcotics control, and inventory management.

Responsibilities

  • Verify physician orders for medications using pharmacy information system, checking drug and dose in relation to patient issues and automated alerts.
  • Supervise Pharmacy Technicians to ensure compliance with regulations and provide guidance on prescriptions and pharmacy systems.
  • Adjust dosages based on protocols, ensuring appropriateness for the patient’s condition, and participate in antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Educate patients on medication use and effects, especially when using multiple medications or discharging.
  • Manage narcotics, inventory control, and compliance, including documentation and audits.
  • Communicate with nurses and physicians to verify orders and gather additional information.
  • Assist the Pharmacy Director with accreditation maintenance and operational changes.

Qualifications

  • Licensed, “good standing” pharmacist in Texas required
  • In-patient hospital pharmacy experience preferred
  • Flexible to work various shifts and on-call as needed
  • IV certification required or willingness to obtain within 60 days
  • Excellent communication skills, manual dexterity, computer proficiency, and credentialing requirements

What is expected at this level

  • Apply technical knowledge to perform tasks, work on moderate projects, resolve technical problems, and use judgment within parameters.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated hourly range: $49.40 - $70.60
  • Not eligible for bonuses
  • Paid time off in accordance with laws
