Job Summary

The Staff Pharmacist II at North Mississippi Health Services is a multifaceted position focused on clinical care, education, operations, research, and regulatory compliance. This role involves coordinating patient care across various healthcare settings, providing medication education, conducting research, and maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Job Functions
  1. Assists in coordinating and providing care to patients across the continuum of care, in conjunction with other healthcare professionals.
  2. Serves as a resource to support pharmacy personnel and other healthcare professionals in designated areas.
  3. Assists in designing and coordinating clinical pharmacy services.
  4. Assists in training pharmacy staff.
  5. Monitors and manages drug therapy in designated patient populations.
  6. Develops care plans and guidelines, including drugs, devices, and delivery modalities.
Education
  • Provides pharmacotherapy education.
  • Assists in programs to meet the needs of pharmacy and healthcare professionals.
  • Develops objectives and facilitates student/resident training.
  • Provides medication use education to patients, families, and the community.
  • Participates in educational programs on disease prevention and wellness promotion.
  • Participates in departmental performance improvement programs.
  • Maintains required CE hours.
Operations
  • Assists in prevention, detection, and resolution of medication abuse.
  • Has working knowledge of pharmacy and medical claims systems.
  • Understands retail and hospital outpatient operations.
  • Knowledge of billing and reimbursement procedures (ICD-9/HCPCS/CPT coding, OPPS reimbursement, Medicare).
  • Verifies patient insurance benefits and precertifications for third-party payers.
Financial/Budget
  • Assesses drug therapy treatment regimes and delivery systems.
  • Assists in compliance with departmental budgets.
  • Participates in revising the system-wide formulary.
Reporting/Recordkeeping
  • Maintains activity and outcome reports for practice areas.
  • Provides accurate and timely reports.
Research
  • Coordinates and participates in pharmacology research with healthcare professionals.
Regulatory
  • Ensures compliance with accreditation, legal, regulatory, and safety standards.
  • Adheres to NMHS/NMMC policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited pharmacy school (Required)
  • PhD (PharmD) preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Licensed Pharmacist by the State Board of Pharmacy (Required)
Work Experience
  • Minimum 3 years in a comparable health system pharmacy (Required)
