May direct ancillary staff inthe absence of the pharmacy manager.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESIndividual may not be on the government exclusion lists as determined by theOffice of Inspector General (OIG) and System for Award Management (SAM)While on duty, ensures that the pharmacy complies with all state and federallaws, regulations and rules.Remains active and in good standing with all licensing requirements of thegoverning state board of pharmacy.During the two (2) year reporting period, pharmacist completes the state-requiredcontinuing education units (CEU), which are approved by the Accreditation Council forPharmaceutical Education (ACPE)Notifies the governing state board of pharmacy immediately with regard to theindividual leaving employment [of this pharmacy]Compounds and dispenses prescribed medications, drugs, and otherpharmaceuticals for patient care by performing the following duties:Reviews patient prescriptions by various means: oral, written, fax, or electronic,as well as, those transferred from other pharmaciesCompounds medications, using standard formulas and processes such asweighing, measuring, and mixing ingredientsDirects pharmacy workers engaged in mixing, packaging, and labellingpharmaceuticalsAnswers questions and provides counseling to pharmacy customers on druginteractions, side effects, dosage, storage of pharmaceuticals and any other informationrelated to patient care, as deemed appropriate, using own professional judgmentWhile on duty, maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance,security of pharmacy and controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous wastedrugsEnters data such as patient name, prescribed medication, and cost, to maintainpharmacy files, charge system, and inventoryPerforms drug utilization reviews accurately for all patient recordsAssays medications to determine identity, purity, and strengthInstructs interns and other pharmacy personnel on matters pertaining topharmacyOther duties may be assignedCOMPETENCIESAnalytical– synthesizes complex or diverse information, uses nutrition andexperience to complement data.Problem Solving– Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner;
